I want to move the television in my living room but the cable for virgin isnt long enough. I phoned virgin and they want £75 for an engineer to come out and do it Evil or Very Mad Does anyone know if it is possible to buy the cable yourself from somewhere? I asked if they could provide some cable because it was rediculous that they hadnt left enough cable on it, but they said no, it'd have to be done by an engineer.

I'd be grateful of any help

I seem to remember that Maplins sell both long rolls of the kind of cable you need, and also sell various lengths with the connectors already on the ends. Even more uselful (although a little more expensive) they also do wireless multimedia routers (or whatever they're called) that work with cable tv. There's bound to be a Maplins near where you live.

Also, if you get the Sunday Times next weekend, look through the supplements for an ad for a wireless wotsit for cable tv, there's always the same ad every weekend and they're pretty good value.

Thanks for that Darkhorse, not sure if there is Maplin near me will have to google it, and I'll have a look in the Sunday times to. Thanks again, and nice to see you around again

Here is their store locator for Scotland

I'm not sure exactly which coaxial cable you need to ask for but I think it is called RG-6. If you tell them what it is for, they'll know which one you need.

If you can't what you need there or there isn't a shop near you, I'd be really surprised, but you can get this kind of cable and all the connectors online too - here is one such web site (web site is a bit naff though). They also sell those wireless thingybobs (apparently they're called video senders, but according to the description, they work with cable, satellite, etc too)

Thanks Matt, I wasnt sure if it was special cable that on Virgin had. Still cant beleive Virgin wanting £75 to do it - What a feckn liberty!

Argos do 10 metres of it for 6 quid.

And you can connect more together if that isn't long enough. Argos call it satellite cable but it's working fine on my virgin multimedia stuff, it's just poorly named.

Firstly, what do you need it for?

If it's just for Internet, Music, Movies etc, then a cheap Dell PC would be perfect, and the best option £££ wise.

If you're looking for more gaming side of things, then you'll be spending a bit more, but an Acer pc will stand you in good stead.

If it isn't too private, if you post a rough budget, i'll see what I can find for you if you like?

Well, i've dressed as a woman before, does that count........... lol (but alas not joking!)

Anyways.....If it's for general web, music etc then a Dell PC will more than likely be your cheapest option, you'd be looking at £350 ish off the top of my head.

Also, ebay may be worth a look too, but with warranties etc, Dell would probably be the best choice.

Arent we a savvy shopper!

I was looking @ PC's for a friend you can buy a complete dell which will suit you Jinja for about £369 including flat screen monitor, otherwise they have a similar spec laptop for for £399.

Just be aware that if you phone them up to buy it they will try and sell you extra crap that you dont need, such as printers, USB cables etc, all of their accessories are way over priced, so don't buy anything extra including extra warrenty (as a new PC is so cheap) from them.

I would aviod all Ebay and custom build computers due to warranty hassles.
