Howdy FBer's.

got myself into a bit of a pickle, at karate tonight i well and truly over cooked a side kick, and seem to have torn my hamstring.

This is new to me and all my instructor could recommend was painkillers and a bath.

Anyone any ideas what I can/should do?

Cheers in advance

here's an idea: SEE A DOCTOR!! it might not be that serious! some physiotherapy might help it heal faster.

I could do with some injury advice. I had an accident at work a year ago. The floor was wet, I slipped and ended up with a lower spine injury. It didn't seem too serious at the time. I had a ouple of weeks off to rest it and it seemed ok. Lately though, my back has started aching again. I'm going to see the doctor this week but I'm wondering if I should see a lawyer?

rofl the injury lawyers love those kind of cases, id expect to see $$ LOL

back injuries get BIG bucks, play on it Very Happy seriously
That's what people have been saying to me...but I am hoping for promotion next month and me suing the company woudn't help!

aye but they would be breaking the law if they held your claim against you, Wink

I know these things Very Happy

yeah right, try proving that's why she didn't get the promotion. They might argue that she waited a year to file though.

Haylo another update for yas.

My leg is 100% better but still not fixed yet, i've experienced slight bruising and everything points to a 2nd degree tear, so i'm actually amazed at the speed im recovering. At the current rate I recon i'll be 100% fit in a month.
Did the hot and cold treatments help you?You said you have torn ligaments you might want to get what they call a tense unit.

thats TENS not tense. it stands for (something) electric nerve stimulator

Bruce Lee used a similar device to tone up his muscles whilst reading and not working out ect..

also they are great fun to use..connect a couple of pads to certain areas on friends arm, whack it up full, and get them to drink a pint...funny to watch..

tense units are used by orthepedic speccialists, they send out pulses sensations on a injury long in healing

I KNOW that but they are spelled TENS which stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator. I know this from having worked as a medical secretary for the past 13 years. I do know what I'm saying please don't treat me like an idiot.

Yeah ta peeps, I don't think a TENS unit would help this injury tbh, they are used by people generally who suffer from chronic pains, like arthritis and not so much as a musculatory repair method.

But having said that my leg is better some more, it's stopped hurting at the back, so i need to start on stretching it out again, but after a block from a head-hi roundhouse kick on monday, the inside of my leg now hurts to buggery LOL

obviously the block knocked the pain from the back to the front lol maybe if two people hit your leg at the same time it'll knock the pain right out of your leg. just a theory

I'll never learn will I? Razz

The back can be a tricky thing. You might not feel it right then but you might feelit later.Trust me its always later, and doctor bills being what they are.Your workmen comp will cover your bills and medication. As for your back trust me they almost always end up hurting later.Your best bet go to the doctor have them do a catscan, but its really hard tell with the back.

my god you ARE talented. Where does all this medical expertise come from? A plain xray would do the trick, they can always do a ct if they find something that warrents further investigating. CTs have way more radiation so conservative is the way to go

CL, it's wasted breath.... if there's one thing i've learnt after years in this game is that there's always one, usually that did a first aid course 10 years ago, that knows better than you do.

I get them all the bloody time... winds me right up it does - All i do now is bite my lip and imagine them with a Nitrox cylinder shoved up their jaxi Wink

BTW, that's not a direct reponse to CL's comment - just a generalisation (just in case anybody thinks I might have been getting at them)

There's a thought! It's just that unlike her i really am in the medicine trade - as a secretary true but i'm lucky enough to have been taught much from actually paying attention to the dictations i type.
