17.02.2007, 19:57 quote

Anonymous

Over the past ten years the 23 nations of the European Union has dontated on average 500 million dolars a year to the Palestinians. The US has donated a further 400 million. Almost 70% of this money is unaccounted for (although the Mrs. Arafat (the widow of Yasser) reportedly has upwards of 40 million in her personal accounts.)

This money was intended to support the Palestinians during the peace process. Unfotunately, whilst the Palestinians have happily taken the money they have yet to make any concessions and continue to follow a policy, that at best could be described as ethnic clensing and at worse genocide.

So why do we continue to support them?

There are currently at least 10 countries suffering sever famine. 900 mllion dolars, let alone 900 million a year could feed the populations of every one of them and put each of them on a solid financial and economic footing so that they should never need our help again.

If you don't believe that, consider how much good was done with the 23 million raised by live aid.

Arafat was very currupt as everyone knew. He had a fortune of billions while his people starved. Hopefully the new Palestinian leadership will be better and also more committed to peace with Israel.

Whilst possibly less corrupt, all elements off the new Palestinian leaderships have already repeatedly rejected peace with Israel. Hamas, have said quite clearly 'it will never happen' and Fatah demand concessions from Israel that would destroy the Israeli state, calling them red-lines that they will never cross.

Interesting, can you provide links/backup for any of these claims?

Temporary International Mechanism
The TIM was established in June 2006 by the European Commission at the request of the Quartet and the European Council to facilitate need-based assistance to the Palestinian people. Since then, different sectors of Palestinian society have benefited from EU granted allowances. Emphasis has been given to the sectors that enable the continued functioning of essential public social services.

True. And you, or they, can assure me that none of the money is being given to terrorists who are spending it on guns rather than food?

And even if you could, should we really be paying for Palestinians Kidney Dialese (feel free to tell me I spelt that wrong) to teach their children racial hatred, rather than feeding african children?

Yes, do you have reason to believe otherwise?

Btw, I am still waiting for your backup on these allegations:
Almost 70% of this money is unaccounted for (although the Mrs. Arafat (the widow of Yasser) reportedly has upwards of 40 million in her personal accounts.)
Here, I'll give you a hand
"In my estimation Suha has no control over either Palestinian finances or Yasser Arafat's finances," Dr Gershon Baskin, director of the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3995769.stm

Top Palestinian officials say Suha wants the new chief of the P.L.O., Mahmoud Abbas, and Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei to give her money out of the P.L.O.'s party coffers. But the organization is not as flush as it once was. A senior P.L.O. official says "they'll pay her a pension, and that's it."

See what I did there?

I believe you are not so much pro-Africa as anti-Palestine. Am I right?

Did you actually read the article you quote. This one says 10M a month was being transfered to Mrs. Arafat's accounts. So, the PA dosn't want to make a fuss about Mrs. Arafat's money on Mr. Arafat's deathbed... Surprise, surprise... to do so would be political suicide.

Good response, short, to the point, and adding a interesting dimension that obviously others in the discussion had failed to consider.

As usual, with the anti-Israel crowd when logic, justice and intelligence fails them, they resort to abuse and stupidity.

Re read the thread, the first person to resort to abuse and stupidity was yourself.

Indeed. I have a problem with idiotic cheerleaders.

there really wasnt any need for personal insults

Why do you believe the two are contradictory.

Africa is a worthy cause. Palestinian terrorism is not.
