It is quite clear that prison doesnt work, hence the prison system is overflowing and the governments lack of investment towards improvement. The only way you could get prisoners to work is to do something such as whip them or beat them when they disobey. Otherwise, how are you actually going to force those prisoners who refuse to work? Do we really want to revert back to mistreatment of people or is there another way? I dont know the answer to that one but I know that because prisons are full many criminals are given lighter non custodial sentences, or short custodial sentences to ease the prison burden. That is no good for any of us.

I think more and more people in this country do not vote simply because they feel that politicians are out for themselves aqnd so it doesnt matter to them which party is elected. With this great mistrust in mind, their needs to be a new system, or people HAVE to get more involved as opposed to sticking an X on sheet of paper every so often to choose their dummy leader. Ive said it often on here, I find it stupid that it is the law you have to fill in your census forms when they come round every 10 years, yet it isn't law for people to vote. Perhaps if it was politicians might work a bit harder to win your vote. Or perhaps not, perhaps voting is all fixed? You see, no trust in the system!

At the last census I did not return my form and I had someone come round, knock on my door and deliver another one. They told me it was illegal if I didnt fill it in. Although I have never heard of a case of anybody being prosecuted for not doing it Laughing

Same here. They told me it was a £1000 fine but I've not heard of any cases of prosecution.

Even so, that means there is a law in place to enable them to know what goes on in your household, but no law for people to participate in the democratic process by simple process of voting. But then, maybe that would be undemocratic?

How would you feel if your house was burgled and all you could do was help the spotty little hoodie carry you hi fi to his car! Why because if you tried to stop him you would be in the wrong! His human rights far outstrips yours as a victim!

Whilst I understand your point, that is a little exagerated lol you have the right to make a citizen arrest but not to use excesssive physical force. Of course, excessive physical force is an ambiguous phrase because the police use excessive physical force all the time now, even if you are just taking photos in the street..... UT

Ambiguity is the watch word, as is the legal interpretation of a word or phrase! Yes i agree that my example was OTT, I caught a kid in my front room one night! Yup i kept him there until Old Bill turned up 3 hours later, they duly arrested him the very next day he was on the street and shoved a firework up the exhaust of my car! I caught a bill for over £300 for repairs! What did he get? Probation! Although he did admit a string of offences in the area!

That is one reason why crime rate figures are lower than the actual crime rate, people tend to not report things because they have little faith in the Police being about to help them. It is also why so many people take the law into their own hands now rather than go through the official channels, because the official channels are not offering any kind of reasonable Justice. It not only makes people lose faith in the system, it creates more crime when people do decide to take the law into their own hands.

Out of all the political parties in the UK who do you think is best for the job of turning the UK around? Like fantasy football, perhaps we should have fantasy politics and choose politicians for an ultimate party Laughing

Random....
I don't go into supermarkets much anymore. The last time I did a weekly shop in a large supermarket it was easter. I get all my shopping delivered now, it costs £3.50 for them to deliver it to me Tuesday night when I get home from work. Call me lazy if you want, but I find supermarkets undignified. Have you noticed the growing number of self service tills in supermarkets? those tills are taking jobs away from people, thus saving the big corporate supermarket more money in costs so they can maximize you for profits. They put one person in charge of like 4 or 6 self service tills and save a packet.

Anyway, I just wanted to have a bit of a rant about that. I stay away from supermarkets now because they seem to just herd everyone in like sheep and we all walk around them in the same zig zag route along the aisles, avoiding each other in case we upset someone and cause a trolley rage incident LOL

Yeah I hate supermarkets

well i already have a job! I am off work sick! But i wonder if Brown wants to extend it to the sick as well! I wounder how it will work for Govt workers who aren't supposed to take 2nd jobs?

I didnt know there was a rule that some govt workers cannot have a 2nd job. One MP in Croydon has 4 jobs, he is rolling in the dough and people have been complaining that he cant possibly do all 4 jobs as effectively as one person for each job.

I see the cuts for the police mentioned in the news today, lol we will be policing ourselves soon, but still paying for a police service of course
