I have recently started debates on various forums on different ways the government are trying to get us to help the planet. The drop to 30* washing cycle in my opinion does more harm than good. I did try it for a few weeks and found clothes still dirty so had to be rewashed, thew asher began to stink and apparently the tests that were initially caried out were not very explanitory. powder companies work alongside electrical companies who probably see it as a no brainer to tell people to damage their machines. It is also a fact - I did read it somewhere lol that you cannot kill bacteria in a wash less than 40*. Do you have any other useless ways of assisting the healing process of our planet?

I have cut my electricity and gas usage in half the last year. It was not that hard to do either.... e.g.... switch off lights, T.V off instead of on standby, jumper on instead of the heating. Dunno if it helps much but its certainly helped me out cash wise Very Happy

Oh... and welcome to the forums Evrae Smile

I do nothing.

There is evidence to support both the idea that global warming is happening, and that it isn't, yet anybody who doesn't believe in it is denounced.

If global warming was a real issue, the government would actually be doing something about it, instead of letting more cars be built, more aeroplane journeys take place, etc.

I used to cycle to work everyday last year, but to be honest way too many dangerous drivers on the road, you take your life into your own hands when you take a bike out in town during rush hour....

I heard on radio some scientist saying that the problems we have now are the effect of what naturally happened about 800 yrs ago. To be honest its all greek to me, goes right over my head. So I can't decide which camp I'm in!
All in all though, I do my bit but mostly for me, my own pocket, landfill (keeping it down) and 'the little guy'.
90% of what I buy is (and/or)
1. Local produce
2. Freerange
3. Organic
4. Made with recycled materials
5. Recycle-able
6. Biodegrade-able

And my motto is "Re-use, recycle and help the little guy stay in business".

Not having love.

I would say most people don't do it because of the environment, but because they want to save money....which is not bad as it serves two purposes at the same time.

Even small things such as insulating your windows and doors (even if it is just with some insulating tape) does help a lot.

You can save lots of money just on some thermal insulation...(windows, doors, walls, roof).

You could also save money/energy by just reducing the pressure of your main water supply...

If I was not living in a flat I would try and use some solar cells on the roof...might be worth the additional costs in the long-term.

I wish all new houses were built with some form of renewable energy, instead most property developers still seem to just want to build cheap housing with maximum profit with just basic facilities. The houses and flats built where i live (built in year 2000-2004) have nothing like that, although it is a nice area. The greenest thing about these places is they will probably all have rotted away within 40 years Laughing
