Did anyone else here that there is an African news agency and television network in the pipeline and it should be up and running within a year. I dont have any more details on it to be honest, i just saw a short news bulletin on it so didn't really catch it all.

I think its a good thing. The motive is that other news agencies, like Reuters would be supplied news and info on what's happening on the continent and its in effort to curb the unrealistic and inaccurate news reporting that exists at the moment.

They have a point as well, if all the news that we hear from there is negative then it will never simulate investment etc. so if there is a more accurate news source then this is likely to change.

It seems like a no brainer and you'd ask 'why didn't this happen ages ago'. There is a huge population there and basically an untapped market in the whole scheme of things. Good to see it happening.

Has anyone heard anything about it?

I presume you don't mean afrol? (they have a website of that name, if you care to look) That is an independent news agency covering Africa as a whole - but have no idea if they work with reuters.

Certainly sounds like a good idea - though I just assumed really that this kind of thing already existed - reuters 'employing' local journalists.

I think that could be them alright. But the piece i saw was about them trying ot address the type of news that the world sees, so its not all doom and gloom and a more accurate picture of the real situation.

That site looks good though ... http://www.afrol.com/

IF YOU WANT TO DISCUSS ISSUES PERTAINING TO AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT OR KEEP ABREAST OF THEM, IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO HAVE A STATION DEDICATED TO THE CONTINENT, ESPECIALLY IF WE COULD ATTRACT AFRICAN RESPONSE . I AM SURE THERE ARE FOLKS OUT THERE WHO AGGREE!

What kind of station? Railway? Radio? And why are you shouting?

I have friends, both African and other (including my sister) who live in both the cities and the bush, so get a 'real' side of the story.....the bits we in the uk dont often get to hear about. Most of it the doom and gloom that Costa refers to. Not a lot of good things happening in Africa lately, apart from the headway being made in controlling malaria and Aids in certain places, but the hospitals are still in the dark ages in some places (my auntie is a nurse in tanzania). T'is tragic times.
