You sir, have hit on the main downside of male nipple rings. I have one myself and while it seems to go down well with the ladies and I like the look of it, I tend to get fed up / sore after too much attention. I'm sure there is a lesson here for us lads but damned if I can figure it out
I also had a close call when I got my nipple pierced. After arriving at the piercing joint the piercer asked whether I wanted my Right or Left nipple piered, to which I replied the former.
She paused and looked at me for a moment, which got me thinking, so I asked whether it has any connotations depending on which side it is placed, and she replied yes. Needless to say I went for the left nipple in the end, but I had absolutely no idea. I thought it was just the ear (and even then only in primary school).

I've had mine done, went for a bar rather than a ring (I saw a ring get pulled out in a slam - plenty of blood for all) needless yo say I rather like the attention there. As for onnotations, not heard of any I chose based on the side of the bed I slept on...
