Most usual reason for a noisy fan is a duff bearing causing it to rotate slightly off axis, if its a clunking noise this is probably what has happened and they can be replaced for a few quid but it requires dismantling the laptop. |

Sounds quite like the bearing gone then, it starts off normal thil the temperature rises then as the fan speeds up the increase in speed causes it to resonate.
