Sorry to revive an old topic but....
Last week I wiped my pc and installed a new copy of xp pro. I downloaded and installed the latest AVG free only to find that it was full of loads of crap I don't want anymore. Things like I.D protector, link scanners, anti root kit etc etc. Is it just me or has AVG become bloatware? If it has, can anybody recommend another good free more slimline anti virus software?

I will answer my own question here. I now use Comodo internet security. A firewall and anti virus. So far (3 days) it seems to be working fine.

I'd recommend a free virus killer call Avira.I would say it's better than AVG!!!
