The free version of AVG doesn’t ‘come to an end’, as such. Are you sure you didn’t install a trial version of the full version of AVG (i.e. with a time limit)? The free version at http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe works indefinitely.

Probably best to uninstall the existing one first. I've been using the free version of AVG 8 for a few months now (since it first came out) - it just goes on and on and on and on (a bit like some of the people on this forum )

AVG 8.0 free edition runs on 40 cumputers in our company and there is no problem so far..

AVG has extra facilities than others, for e.g.: spyware, link scanner, security tool etc.

For servers I prefer McAfee

AVG is unable to treat 'Trojan horse'. I prefer quickheal.

Sorry to revive an old topic but....

Last week I wiped my pc and installed a new copy of xp pro. I downloaded and installed the latest AVG free only to find that it was full of loads of crap I don't want anymore. Things like I.D protector, link scanners, anti root kit etc etc. Is it just me or has AVG become bloatware? If it has, can anybody recommend another good free more slimline anti virus software?

I will answer my own question here. I now use Comodo internet security. A firewall and anti virus. So far (3 days) it seems to be working fine. Very Happy

I'd recommend a free virus killer call Avira.I would say it's better than AVG!!!
