i have a toshiba tecra S1 laptop and the fan is very noisy, its got worse this past month, and i dont know what to do about it.

my warrenty ran out last year, and it's prob gonna be pricey to send it back to toshiba...

any suggestions?

check the cpu usage of laptop to see if it's high,if it is it could be overheating.other than that replace it.or you could get a can of compressed air and try cleaning the bearings of fan.
the cpu usage is fine, very low... as for the compressed out, will i need to take the laptop apart for that

hold it bout six inches from fan grill then just spray it for a few seconds, does laptop get any hotter than it used to?if it does i'd get fan replaced,im not sure of cost though.

its more than likely the fans on the way out then, just spray some compressed air into it or a quick hoover might do the job.other than that longs it dont start shutting down due to overheating dont worry about it:)

What you could do is download SiSoftSandra 2006/2007 i think it is. Its got a section that checks Fan RPM and tells you if the fan is running at the correct speed for the PC, also says if the CPU is running any hotter.

Might be worth a try if you get stuck.

Most usual reason for a noisy fan is a duff bearing causing it to rotate slightly off axis, if its a clunking noise this is probably what has happened and they can be replaced for a few quid but it requires dismantling the laptop.

what makes me laugh is when these firms say there fans our silent, silent for about a month then they sound as noisy as any other fan.

Yeah, silent until they get an ounce of dust on them that screws up the finely tuned balance Smile
