Who are your favorite artists and pieces of art?
Some of my favorites are:
Charles Burchfield- he is an American who does watercolors of rural landscapes. I love his piece "Orion In December".
Jim Hodges- American who does some interesting sculptures
Kandinsky- his abstracts are so interesting and have so much detail in them
Klimt- I used to not like him, but I had a professor who described "The Kiss" and changed my way of looking at it. Now I really like this piece
Van Gogh-has always been a favorite of mine, especially "Starry Night over the Rhine". I also learned to appreciate his works even more after seeing a show of his landscapes and fields

Definetly Klimt: "The Kiss" and the one called "Dolor" I believe!
He's my favourite artists and The Kiss represents what I would like to have at this time of my life.... a loving relationship...
Sorry for the cheesy comment!

Its not cheesy! My professor explained it like this- the painting captures the moment when the two people are so caught up in eachother and the romance that you can see it- they can see eachother's spirit. Its very intense and beautiful and his description changed how I looked at it. I would love to be able to see this painting in person, as the gold on it must make it glow- would definitely add to the effect. Everyone has their own meanings and association with art though, which makes it so cool.

When u r talking about "art" (and no i dont normaly do that thing with my fingers in the air when i say "art"
) are yuo just talking in the sence of it as in paintings and sculptures? as life is an art form in itsself,
and therefor i must profess my perfered artist to be myself,
however i i do like william wholeman-hunt and salvordor dail along with madonna.

I was talking about more traditional art pieces, such as paintings, sketches and sculptures but I agree with you- everything can be art.

I really like Hannah Hoch's photomontages, especially 'Klein Sonne' (Little Sun) and 'Die Kokette II' (The Coquette II) It's very 'political' art because of the times she lived through, but it appeals to me.
I also really like Tamara de Lempicka, there's something in her style that just clicks for me.

Thanks for the explanation, that's what i always felt when I look at the painting or poster of it...
To be honest I had to discover art by myself because my art professor in high school was a BITCH!!!! Everyone hated her, including some of the other professors.... he he he

Kagaya Yutaka is a Japanese digital artist born in 1968 who is known for painting elaborately detailed and spectacularly colored images. His images often include elements with a luminous quality. Some of his favorite subjects are astronomy and visions of utopian worlds.
below i post some examples of his beautiful work
his website for more artwork http://www.kagayastudio.com/

Kagaya's work is very beautiful- I love the sky in the first image you posted.
Icelandic- I've never heard of Tolli before, but his work is wonderful. He captures the landscapes in such a unique way- I love his use of color and shapes

Tolli Morthens is Icelandic, had the honour of meeting him once. He is the lesser known brother even in Iceland to the rock star Bubbi Morthens (again whom i have had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions).
I first heard of him when I applied for a job in a fine dining restaurant, and all the art work was by tolli.....would love to own one, but they are not cheap lol

Here in Walsall, in our crappy concrete art gallery, we have a collection of art by Garman Ryan (sp?). Not seen it in ages, but there is some good stuff there.
