Sometimes people don't like to include Arts and Crafts together, but since I am into both, I thought I would start a thread for crafts. So it will be great to see what other people on fbx make either as a hobby or as their work.

I hope that the men won't see this as a 'girlie thing' with embroidery and knitting but that they feel able to share models, or kites, dolls houses and things that they may have made for other people and children.

One of my friends told me that he'd made a Chinese Pagoda for a rabbit hutch. I've never seen it but sounds quite impressive.

I'm going to start off with my seabird silver necklace with a chrysocolla stone that I made after having painted a picture of seabirds as a reminder of my dream to be living by the sea. The jewellery then gave me the chance to wear it with me all day too.

I am beginning to feel bad that no-one else had bothered to reply yet, so here we go, I know its not even close to what you want, but it is an effort....

I've had it for about 15 years, and yes I have actually started it, well, I cut out the card-board bits anyway!
I am hoping to have it done by the time I retire.......

Meg,

I never did the traction engine, but I have the tram, locomotive and vintage bus all on display. Built them some 20 years ago!

Myriad, That's fantastic! A close friend of mine also enjoys working with silver, and she derives a huge amount of satisfaction from it too.

My own small area of creativity lies in the design/building of model aircraft.....

Now there's a talented man.
So you actually design them, and they fly?!

That plane is awesome.....

Sometimes I even got paid for it too! Once the design has been proven, I sell the plan to a publishing house. The financial return is minimal, it's true, but it's great ego-boost to wander into WH Smiths and see your own creation on the front cover of a magazine that's read by dozens of people!

Anybody else want to admit to being a nerd?

Great! I just love to see models. Tim the planes are fantastic. Do you get together with other folk making those kind of things? In North Norfolk there is a very active model engineering club, also a Minni House Club where the members make dolls houses and minatures.
Megalone, I hope you finish your model before you retire, but I'm sure it will take a lot of [patience to complete.

So another craft for me is working with glass and this was my first Stained Glass panel.

I dunno, some of the pictures you've put in the boobies thread could be thought of as a certain form of art.....

I would definitely call that a craft, it's beautiful.

and in reply Nixy, I've been concentrating more on my artwork this last few years, but I will be setting up my workshop eventually to cater for silversmithing and working with glass, but see those as being more for myself. I'm probably a bit rusty on the technical side, but I don't think there's money to be made for a lot of jewellery, the markets are so cheap with silver I could never compete. However, in the future I may do 'one off pieces' that would be expensive to make and to buy.
One of my other silver necklaces was put on exhibition in the V & A Museum one year so I was proud of that as it was only my 2nd year of evening classes. Very Happy

Also I'm useless at knitting, I made a zig zag scarf...... but that wasn't the design it was just that I kept both adding and losing stitches and I didn't even know how to cast off, I had to wait for a visitor to do that for me Crying or Very sad
