Banksy comes from my neck of the woods just wondered what you art critics think of his work do you class it as art?
07.04.2008, 21:17 quote
Yeah, I think it's art. But I thought that it was more or less agreed these days that "Banksy" doesn't actually exist, or at the least most work attributed to him is lots of people, and some of his stuff isnt really artistic cuz they/he uses stencils etc. and not real free-hand?
But generally speaking i like most graffiti - not meaning the usual drivel/swear words which is just moronic vandalism of course!

Street art really taken above the usual level of graffitti - excellent stuff!

I can't stand Bansky. He's nothing more than a random pop culture generator "Um, McDonalds and errr... Police men and um... Disney and oh, erm, Nazi?" Yawn, Yawn Yawn.

Banksy is the diffinitive representative of street ART, weather its a stencil or not he created it, comming from a graffiti background you would appreciate him alot more, he gives street art a good name, opposed to scribble tags which litter the streets, he is a legend.

Banksy is awesome! He has a opened an exhibition in New York, but it's not like any of his conventional graffiti (sp?) works. It's all mechanical food and animals. Looks awesome, but I bet it gets slammed by idiots that don't understand his genius.

Got involved in a graffitti prevention and removal project a while back
Could not help having some respect for some of the guys doing it - not the Taggers who are just a pain !
Love Banksy and anyone who is truly trying to subvert art - the New York Stuff looks awesome!!

I really like Banksy. He is essentially a comic artist, the humour of his designs outweighs their political message. There is no denying that he is simply a talented painter and stenciler and most would add also a very humorous and capable spokesman for modern society. He and his art were in the right place at the right time (much like Jack Vettriano). That being said, I fear his work is grossly over-priced now. There are younger artists like Tek 13 and Cartrain who are just as good in my opinion and a fraction of the price.

Banksy is absolutely brilliant. Just had my Banksy tattoo done, and I know I'll never regret it. No matter what people think of him, he still is and will remain one of the most influential British artists of our generation

yeah bansky is a great artist, somthing totally different that can be enjoyed by everyone not just something stuck in a art gallery.
i find a lot of pieces a bit pretentious, charging vast sums of money for something that has no artistic value, and it seems mostly aimed at upper classes

I love his work, not only is it very skilled in most cases. I just love the irony and finger pointing.

Yeah, i think hes great. And yes i think banksy can be stated as an artist. Of course many people have their own opinions, but thats life.
I've got books on banksy and know a lot about his work, and how it started. True artists are creative in their own way, i think this IS what banksy stands for.
He's comical and clever in the way he expresses his work.Genius.
