Out of all of them who do you think might be the best candidate? The one who is over all best in just about every skill that is need to play the game?

At club level or international? And English players only yeah? The pool of English players these days is getting a lot smaller to choose from.
Alan Shearer

I had my eyes on Paul Scoles or Rio Ferdinand Both can defend well and score. Some of my friends have said George Best but this is way before my time.
I like football and i wish those damn stubborn yanks would take it up more. With becks being over there and playing it might give it a boost.

George Best played for Northern Ireland though. Do you mean ever to play in England or just the English team?

Looks like this nacho novo character is still playing. 18 goals in 33 games is not bad. He is not english but he played for the rangers? Is he still with them? If so i will try to catch a game so i can see him.

Yep he is.....scored the goal last night that got Rangers into the last 16 of the UEFA cup

Unless it was on regular TV and i missed it i wont be seeing him any time soon as i do not have sky.
I don't miss TV to be honest. Never watched it when i was married either. The only time of the year when i was glued to the TV was when the Tour de France was on.

in my liftime a few stand out
gazza - bar his personal demons and 91 fa cup final tackle he would ave became a great
paul scholes - yes he cant tackle but his vision passing and finishing make him best english midfielder for many years
teddy sheringham and alan shearer - it would have been terryfiying if they had any pace
27.02.2008, 17:14 quote
If we're going for english..then:
Paul Scholes
Stuart Pearce
Teddy Sheringham
Peter Shilton
Obviously I can only really remember Paul Scholes and Teddy Sheringham playing..but I have seen matches where the others have played and I was impressed!

In all honesty, Paul Scholes has never really impressed me. I keep thinking I'm missing something, because everybody says how great he is.
