Come on then, having seen all the contenders in action, who should be England captain?

You're only saying that because he's United. Razz

I went for Barry (to my eternal shame, him being Villa. Hope Liverpool sign him up quickly).

Rio throws his toys out of the pram too much in my opinion,

I think it should go to either Gerard or to Terry both have managed well being captain and neither are limelight hoggers

I would go for John Terry from the list. I could see him commanding respect amongst the team.

Plus he's already got the requisite penalty shoot out skills to follow in Becks footsteps.

As for Barry I think it's looking more and more likely that Villa have priced him out of a move, so Bags might be disappointed on that score.

Actually, I'd love it if Arsenal signed him instead. Villa lose a good player, Liverpool don't get their way, and Arsenal take a step closer to challenging United and Chelsea (however small).

Can't see Arsenal paying that much, especially not for an English player, not actually convinced they are even interested seems more like an attempt by Villa to rush Liverpool into paying over the odds.

Maybe so, but I just want Villa to lose all their best players, get relegated, go bankrupt, fold, and Villa Park get demolished and turned into a car park

I would have to say (and I am a very biased being a Liverpool fan) Steven Gerrard. He has everything you'd expect from a national team captain and he is in the middle of the park to control things. I also think that he will be more inspiration than John Terry, although I wouldn't be unhappy if David Beckham was handed the captains armband back!

Nah his batting average against Australia (as we head towards {losing} the ashes) is abysmal for someone that far up the order. Sad

Possibly but with the rest of the top order in tatters I think Bell has all the ability of most of the others put together and I also think he tries to be a team player

Anyway Terry got the captaincy.

Trying to work out whether I want to watch tonight's game. England friendlies are normally fairly dire. Confused
