Anyone out there staying up to watch the cricket tonite? any tips for staying awake?
22.11.2006, 21:36 quote
I won't be staying up, but I will be interested to know if England win it.
And for tips...
1) Don't drink alcohol
2) Have plenty of tea/coffee/red bull.

Havent got sky at the moment, so I cant. I've always had a job keeping awake in the past though.
We needed Harmi on form and Vaughan as captain, Harmi is our main match winner.
LATEST: just said on the radio as I'm typing this Vaughan might be back for the end of the season, which will be good.

Its only the first day, have to see how England bat yet, not going to be easy though. England have no chance of winning it, but if we can bat for a draw now, it will be a good result.
One of my pet hates..doom and gloom after the first day and the first innings isnt even over yet .

well...its hard not to be all gloom & doom & I hope to god I'm proven wrong, I put the bet on about a month ago as I knew the aussies would be well up for it (& I'm betting with my head not my heart) & they proved it in the run up to the ashes by truncing every opposition they have faced. There's alot of psychology involved in cricket & I believe you've got to set out your stall from the off & prove a point to get a good foundation esp. in test cricket as this will carry through the whole series, I think the whole test will be the won or lost on the back of this 1st game, just a gut feeling. england are under immense pressure to have back to back ashes wins,i just haven't felt confident for a while that england are going to win this, one thing you've got to say about the aussies..love or hate them, they never give in & hate being beat esp. by us pomms..bless 'um.

It was always going to be hard with Vaughan injured and Harmison struggling. There's 3-4 players missing from what won the ashes, just got to hope the ones that come in shine, and Flintoff can captain the side as well as Vaughan, which I doubt he can.
I'm hoping Anderson can come of age in this series, but I'm a bit disappointed Monty isn't playing as he comes from Luton.
If we keep getting this cynical whingeing in the media, every time England has a bad day. I wont watch the news

agree with you on those points..key players out or not up to scratch, not good. The british tabloids thrive on negativity & build 'em up knock 'em down (i use the term loosely) journalism. The media as a whole work is these circles.

I've hardly read a newspaper in 2-3 years..I hate them. I buy them sometimes for the CD's and chuck the newspapers away totally unread..I cant be bothered with them

^^^ (sorry not going to keep quoting, the page will be too long) blimey not even a broadsheet or A3 size.. I get the independent quite regularly, fairly balanced view & they cover quite alot of enviromental issues, also the observer now & again. Do you know of any decent news websites then? sqlspace has some quite radical content, you have to wade through some of the madness though.
