A recent survey by Littlewoods (the pools people) of 6,000 fans from all 92 English league clubs, has produced the following list of the ten biggest rivalries in the country.

10) Brighton and Hove Albion & Crystal Palace
09) Newcastle United & Sunderland
0Cool Bristol City & Bristol Rovers
07) Sheffield United & Sheffield Wednesday
06) Aston Villa & Birmingham City
05) Cardiff City & Swansea City
04) Portsmouth & Southampton

02) Norwich City & Ipswich Town
01) West Bromwich Albion & Wolverhampton Wanderers

No Spurs and the scum??

When Ray Clemence was talking about it after he retired, he said 'I played in Man U v Liverpool and Liverpool v Everton derbies, but when I played in my first north London derby I looked around White Hart Lane and though, Christ these teams really hate each other'. He said the rivalry in the north London derby was a lot worse then the other derbies he played in.

Well that was years ago, before the Premiership overhyped things.

The way I look at it is that if Spurs were close to going out of business, most Arsenal fans would put their hands in their pockets. Everton and Liverpool have had a history, certainly recently, or cooperation and a city united, and the same would be true there. For all the venom, the same could be said of Man. City - Man Utd., especially after the minutes silence for Munich.

If Wolves were going to the wall, most Albion fans would gleefully take the piss, and vice-versa. With practically every other rivalry, there is an element of cooperation at vital times. Not here.

Nah Jeg, they would, because when push comes to shove, they enjoy the rivalry.

I wouldn't put my hands in my pockets to save the Woolwich, nor would any spurs mates I know....and there is more chance of them going to the wall then us, if they haven't done their sums right regarding the new Library.

They are really a south London team.

The Spurs/Woolwich one goes beyond the fans but to the players. When Sheringham was thinking about leaving Man U, they asked him where do you want to go, he said ' I'll go anywhere....except Arsenal', and I could feel Paul Merson's hurt when we beat them 5 - 1

Well maybe if they'd asked a different 6,000 fans they would have got different results.
