Bril!!
Here's a question for ya then.
My son is 6'6 and plays golf - well, just goes to the course with a gang of mates and they knock a few balls around, not like he's seriously learning or anything.
He does seem to have the knack for it - teed off very first time got a hole in 2 - first hit the flag!!! Its never more than 3 or 4.
My question is, should he really be using clubs suited to his height?
Do they come in longer sizes for tall people?
He loves playing but always suffers back ache for days afterwards.
I'd like him to learn properly but its very expensive I imagine?

Everyoe thinks that taller people need clubs longer than standard which are available - basically clubs are custom built or can be ordered. What you have to take into consideration is the length of legs, upperbody and arms as this will effect the disatnce that his arms and hands hang down to the ground not just his height.
Naturally we are all different and the ratio of you body plays a massive role in the set up to golf and the club lengths. But any professional worth his salt should know this. I am a full time coach so don't think this is a sales picth. Modern day clubs are not so expensive but should get some good advice then shop around the market is so competetive you can always strike a good deal especially now as the market is quiet after christmas.
Also grip size is huge if he has big hands may need mid size grips to accomodate. Any questions feel free to ask.

Ok that makes sense thanks.
Might be best if he goes have a chat with the local pro then.
Thanks for the advice! x

Be wary a lot of pros are in it for the retail if they tell him just because he is tall he needs longer clubs ask a couple of questions along the lines I just said about the ratio of the body when he stands to the ball i.e. takes his posture. and how this will effect where his hands are positioned. You will get an idea if he knows what he is talking about.

Ok ta, will do.
My mum in her youth was semi pro really, but her other half likes to pretend her past doesnt exist......so I dont get the chance to ask her stuff though she did mention summat along the lines of what you said re: body/arm ratio to height etc.
I will see what the local pro says then mebbe give you a shout again! x
