I am getting sick of sending polite messages to people in my area. I get no reply, but I seem to get messages from women in the Philippines the day after (even though I have blocked that country - strange). I think that peoples time should not be wasted by a site that does not offer basic functionality, e.g. blocking people from the other side of the globe, and they can still contact you.

It's free - you don't expect everything to be perfect do you? Razz

Just yesterday I got a message from someone who said he's in london, but his profile said Sweden (I think, I can't recall)....so goodness knows where his real IP was coming from - prolly Japan for all I know!

I'm no expert, no doubt someone more au faix than me can tell you this - but I think the "block country" is based on their IP address, not necessarily where a) they tell you they are or b) where their profile says they are.

Thanks for the reply, nobody rides for free, but I don't like being fooled. Also why am I getting messages from the Philippines just after I have mailed someone local. It all seems a bit strange.

"nobody rides for free" ??

You do here - It;s cost me nowt but my sanity since the day I joined - except of course the use of broadband to my ISP, but here at Flirtbox it don't cost you a penny.

My guess is sending and receiving messages like that is pure coincidence?

I am not interested in rebound chit chat. What I would like is for somebody who works on this site to reply with facts. Also, I am going to send a test message to someone and see if I get a reply from Mars or somewhere pointless such as further than a car drive away.

If you still get a message then block also all "unknown" ip addresses...which are ips that dont resolve to countries.....but then you might miss other messages of people behind anonymizers as well.

The blocking-by-country feature is unique and I dont know any other dating site (or community website) that does that as well - but there is no 100% protection. If there was, there would also be a 100% protection against spam mails for email providers such as yahoo or hotmail.

Almost 100% of all spammers use email addresses of yahoo and hotmail/msn. So if those 2 companies have not found a solution, why do you expect this from a free dating site?

I personally spend about 30 minutes per day just on deleting profiles of spammers already and I think most people can live with the occasional spam mails. The more people report spam mails on Flirtbox, the less spam mails everyone has to put up with. I am using the website myself and I hardly receive any spam mails....compared to other websites I have once signed up with.....that keep on sending me notification emails and once you login you just find spam mails. So I think on Flirtbox it is not such a big problem, but correct me if I am wrong.....just report those spammers and click on the "report this profile" / message button

Thanks for your help. I also feel that some test emails to people to see if they reply is good. Hopefully I won't get a distant viewer sending me mail straight after.

Otherwise also add other dodgy countries to your list (Nigeria, Ghana, Russia....)
