How about a Scottish forum ?
May encourage a few more of us to come out from under the heather.
Suggestions :
Posts for the sake of safe moderation could be in English or Doric (Old Scots).
Moderators : cheekyeyes - As she seem nice and is about here a fair wee bit and ammoniasquirt because he's got a goatie and could pass off as my old history teacher any day!
Open to all - No matter where you live. No passport needed.
Polite policy - Keeps things all nice a fluffy !
What do you think ?

Then someone will probably want a welsh forum, then and Irish forum.

One of the main reasons for asking for a Scottish forum.
Theres an Edinburgh section as well but Scotland has a fairly spread out population and the two sections listed don't do much for members from the likes of Aberdeen,Moray,Inverness,Highlands,Sutherland and Tayside to the North or Borders, Ayrshire or Dumfries and Galloway to the south. When you use a search for Glasgow or Edinburgh you can sometime miss people that are within your own regions.
A segregated community is not whats being suggested, that would totally defeat the purpose. All that I'm suggesting is a section where more scots may be encouraged to post and get to know each other in a manner that we're used to. Bit like a Ceilidh with everyone welcome
Interesting to see how the members from North of the border feel.

IMO I don't think it's going to happen? this forum is for all English/Scottish/Welsh and Irish to use.

I think those sections are dictated by the size of the place involved, i.e cities will have their own section, but not towns like Aberdeen, Moray, Inverness, Highlands, Sutherland and Tayside etc. For example, i live in ashton under lyne, but I fall under manchester. |
Size is an issue
But all joking aside Ashton under lyne is only about a 25 min or so drive from Manchester if I can remember correctly but Regions such as Aberdeenshire, Invernesshire or Moray are at least 2hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow.Tayside or Angus an hour and a half on a good day maybe more. Sutherland is almost an overnighter ! These regions are a fair bit bigger than most down south but the populations are far more dispersed. For example Highland & Perthshire, There huge but major towns are well spread out and both miles away from the central belt.
Edinburgh and Glasgow themselves are just under an hour away from each other by road and less than that by train.
Fact is that the forum has seen a few results down south because members get a feel of a personality that may be within there extended locality. I does however feel a little more out of reach up here in the land of Kilts and Haggis.
Could use Ringer2 as a good example. I'm closer to Norway than to yourself. Thats ok though as your not my type but I'm sure your a nice chappie anyway

I know what you mean, but they don't constitute cities, that's why there is seperation in the site
(AFAIK) |
Not sure what you mean by AFAIK mate
But Aberdeen ( The Granite City ),Inverness ( City status granted a few years ago ),Dundee ( City of Discovery ) and Perth ( The Fair City ) ARE all cities with an extended population of over 1,000,000 between them. All outwith the central belt and all missing out a wee bit

I think he meant the actually countries rather than nationalities?
Or people that live in them, at least.

Yeh suppose I should have made that a little clearer. I am in no way suggesting that a Scottish forum would be for only Scots. The Idea is that we could have a section where members who live up here can be encouraged to get more involved and hopefully gain more posters and help the entire board flourish. I'd go as far as to say that any member no matter where they live may would also be encouraged to join in a bit of distictive Scottish banter ( TM Chewin the fat ! LOL )
No matter where you go in the world this happen -You walk into a bar and are surrounded by locals yet hear a few accents that sound like your own. Chances are you make a b-line for the familiar until your comfortable and then spread out among locals when the confidence levels rise.
This site has a lot of Scots listed yet very few posting and therefor very few getting to know each other.
So as clarification of the suggestion ......
A Scots forum for Scots only - NO THANK YOU
A Scots forum for scots and whoever else would like to join in ... YES PLEASE

Sorry, it wasn't meant to come out like that, but Laura and Ryan cleared it up for me (thanks guys )
My apologies, my intentions on this board are clearly not to offend/upset anyone.

It's an entirely valid question - Toby has said if you can get 20 people who will put their name to it (they need to be from the location) he'll work on it. But at the moment, people have requested area-specific forums so far and only have a couple of people to put in them.
