Obviously now, most of the threads that are started now are duplicate, and understandable if they are closed.

But can the duplicate thread be linked to the closed thread. The search doesnt always work that well for some of us, and all we gat is 'No topics or posts met your search criteria'. Although its probably better then it was when it Surprised Very Happy

Its not good when you want to reply to a post and cant.

I agree with you there jegs, I have a lot of trouble trying to find the threads I want.....even when I can remember there is one. I noticed handsel and LV are pretty good at weeding them out

You're right, Jeggs, about the searching not working too well and it's not easy. There's a lot of things you can't do, that would make it quicker and easier to use. I'm sure they could get some Google-type of searching instead, which would allow you to be more accurate in the results.
You can't search on posts by people who have closed their profile, for example, and I think that's one thing that could be remedied fairly easily - since, although the profile name has gone, and become anonymous, the name is in the database and linked to all the posts the person made.

How would you see the threads being linked and how would that help?

It's not always a matter of being lazy, sometimes I can't get to the second page of a topic, and the serch function here is really awful. If they were better it would be easier.
I have to be honest I rarely start threads because I'm sure most of my ideas must exist, and the forum doesn't let me look.

I think the search function is terrible on this forum. With that in mind, topics that are quite old (not posted in for 3 months or more, unless is is a very large thread) should be left to die and if a new topic is started along the same lines, then we should welcome the new input to the forum, instead of cutting it dead.
That is just my opinion though. Confused

Yep the search on here does leave a lot to be desired, at least all the pages in the sections of the forum are now accessible. Google can be more use than the search here if you add site:http://www.flirtbox.net/ to your google search.

Scottie's way of thinking on this has quite a lot of merit.

I think the really old threads would be better of being culled, especially the ones that were instantly locked over 3 years ago.

true - if anything the old thread should get the heave-ho, if people have started to post on the new one and there's monmentum.

To further that, is there not a "merge" option? It's pretty common place on discussion boards. It would also help when people hit the wrong button and start a new topic, rather than replying.

There was big problems on here a few years ago when some mods decided to do a big 'clean up', and deleted thousands of old threads Surprised It made peoples post count go down and some didnt like that. Didnt bother me though Very Happy

Old content can be just as useful in the 'here and now'

I remember that, that was funny, I don't think Toby saw the funny side of it though and the mods in question fled to another site. It was reminiscent of the fall of the Berlin wall Laughing

Was funny Toby had the hump big time, but so did some of the users who thought it was the worse thing that ever happened to them because their post count went down.
Lets not talk about the reasons for the other site though Surprised
