By the way given that on most dating sites men greatly outnumber women I think that most women do not need to make the first contact as they get many messages from men.

Me, I'm funny-looking enough that if any woman initiated contact she's either blind, mad, or focussed on all the right things. In any of those cases she sounds like my kind of woman!

I cant say i really mind, but its nice sometimes to have a girl make the first step makes you feel good inside.

It can be hard to go and make the first move in real life, although much easier online. I think if a girl notices a guy is interested and is also interested, it's really helpful if they signal it somehow that's not too subtle - smile at them, maybe say hi, a few glances; that makes it so much easier for guys to start up a conversation.

I think if girls want to make the first move, I think the best way is to let the guy know they're interested but let the guy think he's making the 1st move.

Just adding my vote to the 'i don't mind women making the first move' category.

In most of my previous relationships it was always the woman who made the first move. (They kinda had to, i was too thick to realise that they liked me)

Speaking seriously, I think all but the most self-confident people have a 'fear of rejection' thing going on in the subconscious. If you find someone you like the sound of and have the self-confidence to ask them to meet, you definitely should. It could well be that the person you've been talking to is dying to ask you out, but concerned about being rejected.

Sometimes you can get trapped in not knowing the correct 'dating etiquette' for a situation, and breaking the deadlock can only be a good thing.
