the one thing i cant understand from people, is that when anne nicole smith married that billionaire, they didnt complain much, only a slight murmur, then when an ordinary person marries a 16yo, they are up in arms, they want to decapitate that persons head

I think no matter who does what in this world - there will always be busybodies who - just because it does not fit what they consider 'normal' ie its not summat they personally can imagine themselves doing naturally - look for hidden agendas and ulterior motives, and spin the oracle about how it wont work.
It simply doesn't occur to some people that it doesn't actually matter what *they* think, as long as the couple are happy for whatever reasons.
(and I guess if it's 'outside the box' and involves rich people/famous names it sells newspapers eg the anne nicole smith thang).
02.12.2007, 20:21 quote
well if it was them, they sure wouldnt hell be complaining would they though? its easy for them to say they wouldnt do it, when they are not involved in some way
07.12.2007, 10:55 quote
I never really liked this idea of "outside the box" because in my opinion "the box" only really exists if you beleive it to.
07.12.2007, 19:06 quote
That's really what I meant Scottie - 'the box' being someone's little pigeon hole for you....'outside the box' being that you don't conform to their standard.
08.12.2007, 15:22 quote
I never use that saying, it means nothing if you don't believe on "the box" Lmao
08.12.2007, 15:52 quote
Do you know Scottie, I think that might well be the first time I've ever used that cliche myself - I just couldnt think of a quick way to say what I was trying to say without rambling too much.
The term "thinking outside the box" conjurs up images of boffins on telly trying to be arty-farty and clever, but it did the job hey, you knew what I was trying to say!

I forgot about this old thread I started.
Well, I've sinced turned 50. Don't feel any different. I have noticed a change in trend in visitors to my profile page though (not on FB, another site), that one assumes is age related. When I was 49 most of my visitors were between 37 - 48. I notice that now my age is shown at 50, the majoirty of my profile visitors are 53 - 60. (Strangely enough also a few sub-25's......but they probably just want to see what someone who is old enough to be there dad and still on a dating site looks like )

Do you think its cuz it's a rounded figure? 50? When doing that "search" thang, I choose "40-65" - not because 39 is too young, or 66 too old, they are just nicely rounded figures you know?
So maybe people type in 50-60 or summat and you come up so they check out your profile? Where as you wouldn't have maybe when you were 49. Possibly? Just a thought.

You're quite right, I think most people search like that. Personally, I only used to use a smaller age group when searching because of the large number of results that a wider age group search would throw up.
Actually, I don't search on dating sites at all anymore, mainly because after a few weeks, one realises that the same profiles come up every time, and that there are relatively few new members registering who fulfill the basic requirements (i.e. location, interests, in my case smoking preferences, etc), so I gave up. Although I am quite open minded about who I meet, how old they are, where they live, etc, some basic criteria are non-negotiable - using the smoking as an example - if someone expressly says they want to meet a non-smoker, then they wouldn't contact me, and vice versa.

Is it a very exclusive club? Please send me details of club social events, membership rates, etc.

Is it a new trend, to stick with one's own age group?
I ask cuz when I was 20 and my hubby was 43 there were lots of couples like us - mainly the woman being younger. Both our ages and older.
And even now I look around and see older couples who have been together a long time where the age difference is quite large.
Even my parents there was 10 yrs between them, and most of my married older relatives the men are around the 80-90 mark and their wives are still in their late 60s/early 70s.
But youngsters these days - say up to 30ish - seem to be in 'same age' couples.
Or is that just what I am seeing, and not seeing the rest?

Isn't very exclusive. The only two requirements are that you are 50..and act old.
The social events are great, but require that you travel around the country, which has been great fun, and do a lot of dancing, which isn't always easy

To be honest RG, age probably matters less now then 30 years ago.
But 50 does seem to be a barrier for some reason. I go on another forum where most of the women are 30's/40's, and some of the women on there in their 40's say I am to old for them, probably not the ones that have met me though. Some of them when discussing age groups, say they probably wouldn't date someone in their 50's. Not sure why 50 is that much different then 45 to someone in their early 40's. Maybe just makes them feel old
