I'm not surprised the forces tried to change your son the uniform itself, says a lot about equality and conformity and they even try to get them to think a certain way ... it must be very difficult for some people to adapt to that degree of control, shame it made your son unhappy. Many people find the forces gives them a sense of belonging... I guess it's different for all.

My intention was to join the Navy! I met my ex and became a boring Civil Servant who didn't earn enough to keep her in style (her words)

Sorry all I would start at the top and keep going, Capitalism would be toast and religion its butter,replaced by compulsory cycling and tree climbing, and lots more chocolate icecream. everything would be recyclable, wow! I could turn the isle of white into a prison for all who dissagree.
