Not sure bout that, but to be blunt, I have little sympathy for anyone who gets fleeced by some scammer - the rule is NEVER send any money to ANYONE, no exceptions.

Yeah, it was on the front page of the West Briton the other week.
The woman was an artist who was selling her artwork online.
Someone sent her a cheque for more than the price of the picture and asked her to send the balance to someone in London who would, in turn, arrange for collection and transit of the goods.
She banked the cheque, which cleared and she withdrew the money and sent on the difference, only to find a week later the bank took back the money as it was a stolen cheque-book.

Some people get reeled in really easy!!!!!!

But it wouldn't surprise me at all, many of the people who use the internet think they're world-wise/street-smart whatever, but they're actually very naive and sometimes fall for the oldest tricks in the book.

Sadly, a lot of people who use dating sites are at their most vulnerable when they sign up, and are easy prey to the glib scammers who target individuals rather than 'bulk scam'.

Incidentally, one of the tell-tale signs of a 'fake' profile (although obviously it is likely that a genuine member would have these dislikes too!), is

I dislike...: gossip
lies
dishonest

especially when used together. I've noticed that these dislikes are often used together on female profiles, usually African 'women' with their location in other countries (often some small town in rural US or Ireland).

I feel there might be a problem with blocking particular countries, for instance when you check the IP for a computer at my local library, it will tell you it is in Portugal......and ALL AOL IPs are recorded as being in the USA.

Maybe something "God" might like to check?
