i was wondering if anybody could shed a light on places to go out in glasgow city centre that dont require getting drunk and trying to dance on a floor packed in like sardines! Im also looking for places with more mature people who i can hold a conversation with for more than two minutes once they know they cant get in my trousers. anybody any ideas?

Depends where abouts your going i suppose ! Strata on queen st is good, especially if you can get a seat up the back. Definitely no dancing in there !

Bloc is also pretty good for a date. open til 3, nice atmosphere and not too noisy.

hope all goes well.

Solid Rock near central station is pretty good especially if you're into rock music! Dont be put off if you have a look in the door, the upstairs bit is always busy, but go downstairs and its a nice pub with pool tables and good music

Hi,

I have just joined the site and rushing out to work this now so not got time to put a pic up etc. etc.

I think thee best bar in Glasgow is One Up at Royal Exchange square.

Mature people, no idiots, well, maybe one or two but the door policy is very strict.

Here is a wee link to it: http://www.tannoy.com/Default.asp?Id=8026

Never seen a fight in there since it opened and you can always go to their night club afterwards unless you wanted to stay in the bar until 2.30am.

I agree with staying away from Sauchiehall street unless you are a student with the exception of maybe stavka bar.

Anyway gotta go and serve some lovy dovy couples tonight at work Sad

Hope that helps. Cool

The goose on union street is a really high class establishment. Great moody lighting, excellent decor, fine wine and spirits from all parts of the globe. Certainaly one of the best places you could go in glasgow if your looking for the more mature man/women. Friendly staff. Top knotch entertainment in the form of a 14 inch telly and a worn pool table. The cider is always flowing well.

On a side note the gents toilet is a true masterpiece of engineering and art combined.

i think i will head to exchange square when im going out next weekend then seems like thats the place to be. fighting and ned culture is one of the main reasons i dont go clubbing too much either so we shall see what happens.

p.s. like the occupation scotty and nice smile

The correct answer is either Bath Street or Merchant City.

With regard to Bath Street, I would place Bloc fairly low down the list... Large groups of drunken students holding fort is the usual crowd. First choice would be Butterfly and the Pig... Which has the added bonus of being connected with the Buff Club, one of the few enjoyable 20 something clubs in town.

Merchant City has a raft of solid options, can get quite hectic on a Saturday night, but on a Friday it's usually lively without the weekend drunks... Especially by around 9 or so when the post-work crowd have dispersed. However, avoid Arta (40 year old date rapists and 18 year old gold diggers) and it's counter-part Byblos.

Would agree with Merchant city, plenty of decent, lively pubs and restaurants. Another option is the west end, Byres road and Ashton Lane in particular, again lots of pubs and places to eat (with low/non-existent ned quota).

If your not into ned-infested clubs but want to stay out drinking after hours, the Merchant City and Riverboat casino's are ok.
