When I left school I could barely spell my own name, …its not down to the individual but rather the education system and the help they receive. Incidentally my school was shit and the teachers complete fu**wits. Everything I’ve achieved in life i've accomplished myself.

My ex was dyslexic and he was a v well respected engineer.
Think most dyslexic people tend to naturally gravitiate to things that they can do with thier hands and have a v artistic bent - something my ex had studied, got somethign to do with one side of your brain being more dominant than the other.
Luckily schools diagnose this now much quicker and there is a good support system for it ....... certainly does not make anyone stupid.

*waves*
I was diagnosed at 27 when I was struggling on a chemistry deg, I had a 3 hour assessment which left me with an almighty headache! But also a massive relief at know, tha I needed to learn differently.I find with my dyslexia I am creative with writing, poetry, reading, writing and playing of music, but I also fully use the scientific and mathematical side of my brain. I am also f*cking brilliant at languages lol I pick up and learn languages really easily, I lived in Germany for a few years and wasnt too far off fluent, I also know a fair bit if dutch (and NO it isnt THAT similar to German at all!!), my spanish isnt bad, my French sucks a bit, but my arabic is passable. I think my dysleia is a bit of a gift for me, becuase I liek the way I see and feel everything when I read, I like the way I troubleshoot problems often in a way that a non dyslexic person would not approach them. I love my imagination. On the down side, I have a shit memory, cant deal with long list of instructions, becuiase I cant remember the first ones lol, I am rubbish with names and often mispell my own name!!! So if I sign anything as sandar, dont laugh!! hahah

One practical thing that helped an ex-girlfriend who was dyslexic were the pink transparencies for reading books etc... (sorry if that is common knowledge) but what really helped (thanks to me!) was setting her computer log in on the network so that all her windows come up pink - whenever she logged in, to whichever computer. She never felt brave enough to stick the transparency over the screen, and didn't realise that it could be done. Get the support people to do it...
BTW, I found out that I was crap at maths at uni... pity that I did a maths degree!
PS I am partially deaf (one ear) and sometimes get a similar attitude because it is a "hidden" difference. Ho hum!

When I was in junior school me and a mate were both tested for dyslexia. He was found to be dyslexic, I wasn't. Some teachers were sure that a mistake had been made, though.

I am not dyslexic but have always had trouble with spelling because most words are not spelt how they sound. I still get loads of spellings wrong all the time.

You cant spell so you get benefits! So you cant do jobs which dont involve reading or writing something?
