The tragedy is, many many many people do believe it and get stung. Some seem to do it for the gold, others of pure mindedness wanting to help the poor wee mite, others to take advantage of said poor wee mite (and help themselves to the gold I expect).
If there werent enough twonks stupid enough to fall for it, these scams wouldnt be scams- they'd fizzle out and be forgotten.
