Men - would you consider a vasectomy, and at what age?

Ladies – how do the ladies here feel about vasectomy in the hierarchy of contraception? We’re just talking about contraception here, not about risk of STD’s - the assumption behind this question is that you’re sleeping with the same person on a regular basis, and only sleeping with that person, and are both disease free.

Assume you're joking. If not, why wait that long? Surely once you reach a certain age you don't want the responsibilty of any 'accidental' kids?

Totally agree with darkhorse but there are also plenty of alternative, less painful methods that last for many years, that women can use without any surgery involved, would not want to force a man into something he didn't really want to do, especially involving his nether regions .......... xx

I'm under the impression that many of the 'less painful' methods for men are currently unavailble to men in the UK (probably not until as late as 2012). I discussed options with my GP a few weeks ago and since condoms don't suit me (too personal to go into here), at my age I don't figure I'm going to meet anyone who'll still want kids with me (in fact I don't really want kids this late in my life anyway), a vasectomy seems like the practical way forward. Hell, it's only a tiny puncture hole and it's done under local anaesthetic and can even be done in some GP's surgeries.

Nope, not at any age.

Hmm, seems like there is already a leaning towards 'no way!'

Can't think why to be honest, after all it doesn't affect sexual performance or the ability to ejeculate, it just blocks the sperm from reaching the semen, not really a big deal if you're not intending to have kids I would have thought.

Glad to see someone agrees with me. I made the decision to have it done some time ago, was just waiting for the push I needed to actually go and get it done (push being a new girlfriend, I suppose). Not worried about getting it done or anything, just didn't need doing until now, as my last long term partner had a hysterectomy years ago, so there wasn't any need for me to get it done whilst I was with her.

Must admit that my last girlfriend scared me a bit, she was desperate for a kid - ain't gonna fall for that one.

It took me about 8 months to flush out, which says a lot for the state of the relationship I was in at the time! lmao.

I was told 15 - 20 ejeculations (which by my reckoning is about a Sunday afternoons worth of watching porn and eating wotits )

If you don't mind me asking, I was just wondering how long ago you got snipped? I got told that the new technique was just a tiny puncture hole and that 15 – 20 ejeculations would clear the system – does this sound about right to you?

Bollocks (if you'll pardon the deliberate pun).

I'll have to reactivate my profile properly and see if I can dig up some one night stands to help me out

I think its a good idea. I certainly don't want anymore children and would love to know that the man has taken some responsibility towards that not happening instead of it all resting on my shoulders.

I do know a guy who had it done beginning of the year and he said it was fine. I think i was more horrified than he was when he told me he had to stay awake while it was done!! Just think carefully Dark and make sure its what you really want. xx

Yup. I'd go for it. Provided whoever I was with was happy with it and we'd either had kids or were never intending to have any. Hell, if it came down to it I'd put some of the little fellas on ice just in case.

I don't see it as losing my masculinity at all. I just see it as being able to fire off like an Aden cannon without ever having to worry about hitting the target. How can that be a bad thing?
