Home >> Music >> Should your perfect match listen to the same music?
03.04.2007, 12:05 quote
Music is the biggest thing in my life, a perfect match would be a woman who likes a great variety of music (as I do) and is open to discovering more of it. Doesn't have to be the same bands I like (although she'd have to like Pink Floyd, obviously)
12.05.2007, 19:27 quote
For me they have to enjoy music - be passionate about it - I have a huge range on my ipod and my poor kids get blasts of everything, they are great critics.
I love meeting people who get me listening to new music or new old music if you see what I mean.
But music haters or those who just buy Now 67 or whatever we are up to now would cause me a problem!
But maybe I am just fussy - hence single

hm it would bother me, cause im big into my clubbing and not really into commerical/rock music so if we were going out to a club it would be a big problem

i dont mind what music a potential partner likes to a certain extent because my music tastes are quite broad, as long as they arnt very closed minded to different music. i can enjoy a night out at a punk rock night but also at a hard house and trance night, plus alot more inbetween that. somebody who limits themself to a certain type of music or a scene is perhaps a bit less open minded when it comes to music and appreciating its many forms and ways of making us feel.
there is also music snobbery amongst those that feel they are somehow better or there music is superior because they listen to what is current and fashionable at the time. its always good to explore and enjoy new music but for me music is just about how it makes me feel, wether i am trippin out to some 90s trance classics or doing the pogo at my local punk/rock club, i am just feeling it.

I wouldn’t mind if my perfect match didn’t like the same music as me, although if she did then it would be a bonus and provide something extra to talk about. I have a varied taste in music and I’m open to listening to other types of music. I hate people who mock other people for their taste in music…

To me it doesn't matter that much, although it would be good to have some common ground.

I don't think it is neccessary to like the same exact music, but liking a few similar bands is nice
14.05.2007, 16:39 quote
They'd have to like a wide range of stuff & like listening to new things, but I think it'd be daft to be too bothered if they liked all or mostly the same sort. I think music is too personal a thing to be that demanding. It'd be a very good thing to have at least some crossover taste wise, though.
15.05.2007, 09:02 quote
To be honest, I'd prefer it if they didn't have the same taste. Just means there's more to have a luagh an' take the micky outta each other about.

Well said Scott, I totally agree with you. I've had amazing nights out with anything from celidh to dirty house & hard rock to cheesy pop

I like loads of different types of music but i prefer to be with someone who likes the more alternative side
09.06.2007, 06:52 quote
it dont bother me if im with someone and they bring a few cds of there own to chillout with, all i have to do is press the eject button and voila another beer mat
09.06.2007, 21:15 quote
I don't think its important that my 'perfect match' likes the same music artists as me but (as nasty as this probably sounds) Id really struggle to tolerate someone who was into dance, r'n'b or rap music.
17.06.2007, 13:54 quote
I like anything and everything music wise. I'll give anything at least one listen. I don't like hip-hop or rap music though, I think it's safe to say.
30.06.2007, 11:00 quote
Back to the original question - perhaps it depends on how big a part of your life music is?
My last girlfriend had the same impeccable taste in obscure music as I do, I sure miss that side of things
I rarely meet anyone who has even heard of most of the bands/music I play or go to hear live.
In general, I'm afraid that I might find someone who was obsessesed with commercial or popular music very boring, taste in music is a window to other rooms in their life. But then again, others would think the same about my choice of music.
