Between 8-15. AUGUST 2007, Europes BIGGEST music festival takes place.

It is not only Europe's Biggest music festival, but also the cheapest one around....tickets are quite cheap and food & drinks are extremely cheap there as well.....if you live in the UK, it is cheaper to go there then to stay at home

song inspired by Sziget climbing up BBC singles-chart!

A song titled „Sziget” by a band called Hamfatter got on the indie chart of BBC’s music-station, Radio 1. The lyrical ballad was inspired by the vibes experienced at Sziget 2006 – as reported by quart.hu.

What makes it even more interesting is the fact that the band did not even perform in Budapest last year, they were merely here as regular guests of the festival.

It seems that not only performers spread the Sziget-word around the world. Cambridge threepiece Hamfatter never played at the festival yet they wrote a song inspired by it. The tune called „Sziget” captures the buzz of Sziget 2006, mentioning Radiohead’s Main Stage gig in the lyrics amongst others. The songwriter declares that summer is not over as long as the festival wristband is not cut off. We also get to learn that the author bounced over the barrier at the packed WAN2 tent and managed to climb onto stage to do a wild jive with the members of Gogol Bordello while the band was actually playing.

...anyway - go there if you want to have some fun!

You will definitely meet some great people there....

p.s.: ok, "nature one" is slightly bigger....I have heard.

there are many wonderful festivals at this time of the year.

There is vestmannahelgi on the westman islands, which features some brilliant bands (mainly icelandic) but coldplay played a couple of years ago. It is however a fantasic event. There is also roskilde in denmark which is also brilliant, with many big named acts performing. For this year for instance there was Artic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Basement Jaxx, Bjork, Beatie Boys, The Flaming Lips, The Killers, Klaxons, Mika, Muse, Queens Of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Who, just to name a few. There is also Iceland Airwaves in October the line up is not confirmed yet, but believe me it is well worth it. The festival takes place in reykjavik, and all the bars and is one of the events to go to, past performers have been keane, juliette and the licks and loads of upcoming icelandic bands, even if you don't understand all of it, you will have a hell of a time.

The good thing about Hungary is that it is a lot cheaper there. Apart from that the location is nice and you can go swimming, too, as it is on a small island.

Most festivals in the UK, Denmark or Germany are usually quite expensive...not only the tickets but also food & drinks.....

I haven't been to any festivals this year Sad

Finances depending, next year I'm going to Rock am Ring (depending on who's playing), Bonnaroo (regardless of who's playing) and might try to squeeze in SXSW. If I'm feeling really flush, I'd love to get to Big Day Out in Sydney next year too.

I shall probably end up absolutely skint and not go to any, and end up going to the only Eden Sessions gig that has tickets left /* big sad face */ (last year I ended up seeing Goldfrapp*, which wasn't too bad I suppose......she does have nice legs Smile )

* excerpt from blog
Outside, the festival atmosphere was growing as the day wore on, with food and drink stands frequented by people milling around the gardens and biomes in the run-up to the headline act (or possibly just escaping the Liverpool-based warm-up act, Ladytron).

I confess that although the music was not particularly to my taste, I did manage to shift my aging hips a little to the beat; not very much, of course, I didn’t want anyone to think that I was enjoying myself, otherwise I might be invited to another similar event. The music not being exactly to my liking, I found the advantage of this being a festival-like atmosphere meant that we could leave the arena (and forego the last handful of ‘same old’ from Ladytron) to enjoy another wander through the evening scents in the Mediterranean biome again.

Another couple of fags later it was time to get back to the arena for Goldfrapp. Of course the rain started again. And then it stopped. And then it started again. Of course, the music didn’t stop and start - well, except once, when Alison Goldfrapp either forgot the lyrics of the song the band was playing, or was singing a different song. I know not which, for I am not familiar with her music, nor was I able to concentrate on the lyrics with a quartet of seemingly naked nubile ladies, wearing little else but animal masks, gyrating on stage. Such on-stage antics do not constitute part of the music scene that I frequent, although I must admit that it was entertaining, despite the drizzle and the pole obstructing my view of pert bottom cheeks peeking out from skirts later in the show. I have not bothered to do any research on the significance of the animal masks, but I did notice that some of the more well-versed audience also wore such masks. I am not sure of the significance of the bottom cheeks jiggling saucily from the stage in my direction either, but noticed that some of audience also had such jiggly bottoms, especially the lady in front of me (I hasten to add that she was my date and am therefore allowed such comments). Distressingly, some of the audience also lurched around with more plastic beakers of beer than they could carry, and I was most alarmed when one such *****girl* edited - someone found the word I used distasteful, so I removed it - seemed to be aiming herself at me as she made her way from the beer tent back to her friends. I suppose being so tall makes me a good landmark. Thankfully, she re-orientated herself before she reached us. I suspect her friends were a bit miffed at the half empty beakers by the time she reached them.

And so, we managed to leave the Eden Sessions untainted by cascades of beer, but got a bit wet anyway. Well, you didn’t expect it stay dry on the way home, did you?

I like your writing style!
I do like a good blog but only if its written in a way that can keep me reading the whole thing.
Top job! Very Happy

It appears that I have a rather nasty cough and sore throat, and my glands are like golfballs.
Am ignoring it with all the ignoring power I have and instead of getting anti-biotics, plan to numb the pain with beer, and hope the sun will sweat the nasies out.
I really hope this dosnt turn into tonsilitus like it did last time...

I have to 'get up' at 1am to get my flight tonight - thats the time I usually go to bed! Confused

Sooo excited Very Happy

I am glad that my Eden Sessions missive (extract thereof) provided some light relief from your illness. Hope you feel better before you leave!

All this talk of festivals has reminded me that my post in the Cornwall forum about the Xavier Rudd gig in Falmouth seems to be lost, I shall have to repost.

Sziget beats anything you would ever get in the UK.

It was truely wonderful.

Just got back home. After I've finished this cup of tea I plan to sleep for 3 days straight.
