I got this idea from another forum, but I think it's a good one.

Name one track from each of your 5 favourite bands/artists that gives the best impression of what they are all about.

I'll take that up....

1) Liberty by Steve Vai....balls-to-the-wall guitar, bass and drums and a cracking tune....

2) Recipe for Love by Harry Connick, Jnr....still probably the best living big-band singer and this is catchy, no nonsense dinner party stuff - Sinatra eat your heart out....

3) Open Up - The Dirty Dozen Brass Band...rarely heard in the UK but great, funky, screamin', low down bare-bones funk.

4) Superstition - Stevie Wonder....just....'cos I had to put a Stevie Wonder song in here somewhere and they don't come any better than this.....

5) Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye from ET - The Extra Terrestrial by John Williams...a legend of a piece from a legend of film-scoring - this is as good as it gets....15 minutes of adventure, wonder, joy and tears....

Sod.

I bought the Juliette & the Licks album not long ago - quite good but not listened to it in a while, think I'll listen to it on the bus home! Juliette Lewis certainly knows how to rock tho and she's daaaammmn sexy when she does!!

Feel free to add more, I just wanted to suggest a limit so's those with big lists didn't decide not to post because their list would be too long.

Hmmm I have well over 5 favourite artists but i'll see what comes into my head.

Blur-Chemical World
The White Stripes-Icky Thump
Ash-Burn Baby Burn
The Electric Soft Parade-If Thats The Case Then I Don't Know
Milburn(I have to put these cos i'm a mod on there official forum)-What You Could Have Won.

Wouldn't say these are my fave 5 bands(although 2 or 3 would be in there) but it's a good mixture of what reflects my lifetime faves and my current listening.

Funny you mentioned him, as I've just seen the film about him and have an album on it's way. I'll check that out if it doesn't include that one.

Yeah, someone told me that last night. Still two versions of a good song, though. I have to admit, I did think it was strange that NIN would have done a cover and put it on an album, but I just assumed it was that way around because cash was making music since before Trent was born.

oh i love the Johnny Cash Version, funny coz you think after hearing it done brilliantly by NIN you would think it would be disapointing but it isnt!

I wouldn't be a light critic of anyone covering NIN, because they are one of my favourite bands. It's weird how I got to like them, though, because I didn't like their Broken album the 1st time around. For some odd reason, though, I still bought pretty hate machine after that at a 2nd hand shop and then broken grew on me, and I carried on collecting and listening. I'm a strange cookie, because I had a similar reaction when i started listening to the cure and ended up owning all their albums bar one, of those released between ?1977? & 1995.
