I prefer metal for the sole reason that there's more talented bands in the genre(s). There are bands that are classed as Emo that do have talent, and the ones I've found and have enjoyed I listen to ( Alexisonfire for instance) but in general, you're more likely to catch me listening to metal than to anything else.

Emo, from the urban dictionary;
"Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle."

I've only heard of one band on that list
...... funeral for a friend .... although I dont think I've heard any of their music. So what does that make me

So this 'emo' is basically all the crap that the kids today think is rock?
Im affraid that i have not got time for all that junk!
It is hardcore for me, but then that depends on how hardcore hardcore is?!
The stuff i think you are on about is rubbish in my opinion, so i can hardly comment, but i dont rate any of the stuff i hear on the radio e.t.c!
Hello by the way!

People should check out some proper emo bands like Far, Handsome, Garrison, Jets To Brazil...

Emo, Metal and Hardcore are all horrible forms of 'music'. Each to their own and all that but lets be honest, most of what comes out of those genres is absoultly horrendous.

I don't see how the two can be compared, they are two completely different forms of music. One has no relation to the other. I wouldn't even say emo is hardcore either, it's based upon Punk, just because they scream indecipherable lyrics doesn't make it hardcore. It's metal all the way for me and even then I don't like all metal, some of it is indecipherable noise. Creating a big wall of sound with someone screaming over the top; where you can't hear any sort of tune is not what I would call good music.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong about metal and hardcore having nothing in common ("emo" is a nonsense phrase which I'll discuss later). Thrash metal came from a mixture of metal like Judas Priest with the speed from bands like the Dead Kennedys and Minor Threat. Discharge had a massive influence on bands including Metallica, Slayer and Sepultura. Machine Head were initially seen as following Biohazards footsteps. The most obvious band who used elements of punk and metal are Motorhead. Even bands like Darkthrone make no secret that they were influenced by crust-punk bands.
In turn metal influenced New York hardcore. Both the Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front had metal riffs incorporated into their sound. Celtic Frost were a favourite of many hardcore bands like Sheer Terror. Bands like Sick Of It All are popular with metal fans.
"Emo" is just a bad term that was applied to the "post hardcore" bands like Rites of Spring which was hated by those bands. Somehow it got applied to the "pop punk" bands like MCR etc. This has nothing to do with the original hardcore bands like Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat nor the NY hardcore bands like AF etc.

I'll have to bow to your superior knowledge Chewy. I don't know enough about the evolution of the genres to come up with a valid argument.
