What we doing then dave? any ideas of a date yet?

I want to do the last weekend of August, and I'm thinking Alton towers, unless enough people say they are not going to come.

I'm going to post more ideas and thoughts on this when I get home. I'm away from home right now so I've got limited PC time and can't do that.

Good question. That depends on two things, really. One is whether people want to make it a two day thing or a one day thing. I got distracted today, so I'll look into what is there and the costs involved.

Do people want to find things to do over the weekend or make it a one day thing ?

If it is a weekend thing, then the second day's ticket for Alton towers is just an extra £5 instead of the full price, which makes it tempting.

For some basic information to help people work out the costs, here are prices on tickets that combine entrance fee & train tickets.

Trains going from places around the Midlands/north of England are here:

http://www.centraltrains.co.uk/templates/Page.aspx?id=1673

People going from sort of Midlands to southern parts of England, look here:

http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/altontowers/default.aspx

Anyone in any doubt, look at both and see which seems best for you. I think the prices listed may well be for select starting points as examples only and not the full list. I'm not sure.

Ticket prices only for those who drive, or for whom getting a separate train ticket & entrance ticket is cheaper, the ticket prices for Alton towers are listed here:

If this is a weekend thing, then the next bit of information I am going to post will be the results of what I find when I am looking at Hotel and B&B prices. They will *NOT* be recommendations, but just the results of my googling for information.

If it is just a day thing, then all the information required has already been posted.

Other people are free to do the same and let everyone know what they come up with.

Ok if we are definiitly saying alton towers one day is best for me but if we were to do blackpool the whole weekend would be better. No-one's really said what they want to do so maybe people can help dave to make a real final decision.

If this event is happening at the end of August, then it will have to be Alton Towers for me, thats if I have the time off work (work most weekends)..

I will be in Blackpool end of september anyway, so if anyone else is there that time, would be great to possibly meet up for a drink..

I dont like theme parks either so blackpool seems my obvious choice ... can get a train direct from buxton i think (same one i used to get at uni) i cant do weekend of august 24 as its my sisters 21st ... knowing me though i will chicken out tho lol

seriously depends on the state of the ankle and leg by then and money as u dont get much on incapacity (£46 a week at the mo) and if i have managed to recover enough to get a job so then i would have money but would need time off and oh my lord its confusing but i am sure u understand!
