I just listened to this story on Five Live. Apologies for the link to a Daily Heil article - but for heavens sake!

I saw the subject line and thought If the world has gone mad maybe I wouldn't have to try to pretend that I was sane any more.......

On another note, what a sodding sad little jobs worth. I hope he gets sacked and has to get a job cleaning the sewers.

It seems increasingly difficult to do the right thing in modern society as an increasing number of bizarre rules and regulations fly in the face of common sense and decency.

If you look at the story the other way round, you usually have to with the Daily Mail, then it's a story of an official applying the rules too harshly, calling for support but being ultimately thwarted.

In other words it should *restore* your faith in the world, not destroy it.

The Good Samaritan did the right thing, restoring the Little Old Lady's, and her daughter's, faith in humanity. He sorted it out and he was only threatened with arrest at the end of the journey.

The sad thing is that there are probably positive tales like this everyday that they don't report on because it doesn't fit in with their "anger the readership to get more sales" approach.
