It seems that John Reid............the Home Secretary has come
up with Prison ships, I am sure we have done this before when we sent convicts to Aussie.
What infact the home secretary should be doing is sending all foriegn nationals back to there home countries, have it on good authority that there are hundreds of foriegn nationals in our prisons that have finished sentences that are awaiting deportation and truly want to go home. It cost our goverment £37,000 per prisoner per year it would cost far less to charter a plane to take them home and free our prisons for what it should be used for, instead of letting peadophiles and murderers out with lesser sentences.....................

Its a job to know what to do about crime..the governments have lost control over the last 20 years, Presently with prisons that are more like Butlins, I'm not sure its a deterrent anymore.

I would like us to out source our prisons to somewhere like China, and send them there. Might work out cheaper, and they might have less human rights....they might think twice if they have to spend 5 years in China Surprised

Joking aside, if we run the prisons abroad similar to how they are run here, it might be cost effective to build and run more prisons over there.

yep prisons have become way too soft in there approach to punishment, but i guess thats because of the human rights ac, which is there to protect you and i, but can also be used (or abused) by people who commit crimes against others. im quite sure the government could reform the laws in such a way that they would protect the victims of crime more rather than the criminal, but the present government dont seem to be doing that. makes you wonder that perhaps the present government get something out of doing that, i.e it alaso protects themselves from any wrong doings. all the while tho whilst people are crying out about prison reforms, taxes and health service cuts (which btw are all important and relevant) the present government have slowly taken away many of our own personal rights and freedoms, without actually asking us if thats what we want.
personally i think that if you take away a persons life, you dont really have any rights to your own life and i would like to see that law be implemented where a case is well founded, for instance people like myra hindley and ian bradey.
i dont trust john reid one little bit, his idea to use police cells as an overflow of prisons is ridiculous to say the least, it doesnt address the actual problem, just deals with it temporarily, which seems to be a trend in blairs government. i reckon john reid is the hottest contender to replace blair when he goes, i dont think reid is a good politician, i think he would be bad for our country as he has already shown with such half measures for the way he is dealing with prisons and immigration so far.

Hi ya Scott it takes something to address the problems in this country! Imigrants have the upper hand! they also get bumper handouts from the welfare state to which they haven't contributed a penny! A report in the paper today highlighted it totally! A Romanian who is coming to Briton soley because we are stupid enough to pay him for his family who will stay at home! He stands to rake in 15k a year plus a low wage from a job that he will take! What the hell are we doing! As a householder i face seeing my council tax rise steeply based on luxury comodities! does that mean that something will be done about the crap on the pavements, the refuse sacks in the road, junkies breaking into my house/car etc? I doubt it! The criminal has MORE rights than the law abiding person!
