Far right has more in common with the far left than anything else as far as I've ever seen.

The only real difference is over who is entitled to their 'care' and who is entitled to their 'abuse'.

Human nature is selfish, even selfessness and cooperation is driven by self interest.

Aye agreed, there no such thing as altruism - but that's ok. Altruism would not evolve any society and it's systems of trade and social cohesion. Most "altruistic" gestures are part of a non-zero sum game, in which some benefit; material, emotional, social standing, kinship etc; will be returned in some form at some point.

-fear of being poor

-fear of upsetting people
etc etc.

Yep fear is a huge factor in life. Don't be somebodies lunch.

Saw an excellent stage play, a few years back, in which the dialogue was soley constructed from the answers to a set questionaire which the theatre company had mailed to hundreds of folk (housewives, generals, farmers, students, salesmen...)

The questions (it appeared) were relating to; current issues, the then war on terror, media culture, Tom Cruise's sexuality and potential personal concerns.

Certain sets of anwsers were then made made flesh as specific characters in the play. The diaogue was amazing - it created wierd yet plausible conversation and debate - between people who have never met. Some of the answers were also made into in songs.

The only character which was purley invented, was a campy 8 ft high alien space-lizard, which kinda transcended the plays events, and fed of the fear of humans.

Are we differentiating between far-right and extreme-right here, or is there an ambient middle ground of rightness to be contemplated prior to posting...? I don't know whether to pre-condition myself by considering Norman Tebbit or Joseph Goebbels...
