Please bear with me on this one.

I want you to read the following joke......

A Somalian arrives in London as a new immigrant to the United
Kingdom. He
stops the first person he sees walking down the street and
says thank you
Mr. Englander for letting me in this country, giving me
housing, Social >security, FREE medical care and free education!" >
The passer-by says.... "You are mistaken, I am
Iranian" >
The man goes on and encounters another passer-by.

"Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in
England!" The >person says.... "I no English, I am from Pakistan. >
The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees
he stops, >shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for the wonderful
Britain!" >
That person puts up his hand and says "I am from Middle
East, I am Not >British!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you British?"

She says, "No, I am from Russia!"

Puzzled he asks her "Where are all the British?"

The Russian lady checks her watch and says.... "Probably at
work!"

Am I the only person I know that didn't laugh at this? I found it very sad actually. My ex boyfriend has immigrants living next door to him. They have a nice little house that they look after, they maintain the garden to a very high standard and both work hard in very good jobs.

There's a couple across the road from me. She's a full-time mum and he's a labourer. They keep their home clean and tidy. OK, so the washing outside the front door might be a little odd to some of us, but it's normal for many Europeans of other nationalities Very Happy

And one only has to look at the number of British that are also unemployed compared to the number of jobs going. Why aren't we taking up these places? If we did, we couldn't complain that our jobs are being 'stolen'. The immigrants are only doing the jobs our own won't. (For those old enough, it's probably a familiar scenario/argument).

I'd like to see/hear others views on this.

ps if any mod feels this is the wrong forum, please redirect to a more appropriate one.

It doesn't even work that well as a joke. Surely the cultural stereotype of British Indians is that of being hard-working to the point of absurdity? So it doesn't even make sense within its own bigotted world view. Rubbish.

its more gentle than most racist jokes i've heard, but as nathanbleak put it, it still turns logic on its head.

Not really a great joke, but i can see what they're saying.
It is a bit bizarre that people come and live here but don't consider themselves to be british. I'm not against immigration though- in a capatilist society it makes sense that people should be able move so they can fill job vacancies. The UK historically has had a lot of immigration, and it's worked out pretty well. It does bother me if people move here, fail to integrate, or scrounge off the state. Obviously not everyone is like that.
