Most Aussies aren't shy about saying what they think. Look at Cronulla Beach a couple of years back was it. The residents of this town got sick of Lebanese immigrants robbing people on the beach and staged a huge protest, with people coming from miles around to join in. It got a bit heated, definitely.
It was barely reported in this country, except for a few small lines tucked away in the middle of some newspapers along the lines of, "Horrible racist Aussies demonstrate against poor defencless immigrants."
This is another thing that pisses me off greatly, the way things are so selectively reported over here to make it look like it's always white people at fault. You get a black kid stabbed a white kid and it's a horrendous racist murder. The other way around and they play it down and try not to bring race into it.. "no evidence it was a racist murder" and all that shit.
People in this country have turned into fucking cowards who are too scared to tell it like it is.

Yep, I've said this a few times here before and sadly this thread will probably get locked before long for being Un-PC which isnt allowed on public worldwide web forums apparently, judging from my faux pas' on here in the past....we will be *mis*judged as being racist or non-conformists or summat....

I don't know, I have talked about my world-view and politics on here quite in-depth in the past, and I'm aware that I have opinions that are unpopular today, but to be fair I think the threads did stay open and most people just talked reasonably about things.

Yet it's okay to force children as young as 4 to pray to Jesus...
07.12.2008, 01:49 quote
No, kids are not forced to pray to Jesus in schools. If the parents feel strongly about it, they are allowed to excuse their child from that.
But, "Religious Studies" is part of the national curriculum, though a child once they start their leaving exams (GCSEs) can drop the subject.
Christianity is just part of that curriculum within that subject. My son spent an entire term learning about Islam, I have no problem with him learning about all sorts of faiths from around the world, thats what it should be about, learning all sorts of stuff.
At least he then has the chance to pick and choose what suits him, based on acquired knowledge, and not ignorance.
And most govt run schools do still have their core base in christian beliefs, simply because the queen is Head of the Church of England.
We are a christian country, like it or not, that is our foundation religion.

Don't forget about the collective worship (which must be Christian-based or mainly Christian) too... Of course, they can just be withdrawn *by their parents* - however, even without the anti-authoritarian stance I object to this on the basis that it reinforces the idea that non-Christians are somehow 'different', and (indirectly) that Christianity is superior to all other beliefs.
07.12.2008, 02:58 quote
They are different.
Like I said, this is a Christian based country.
Where the dang you get the idea that "christianity is (indirectly) superior to other beliefs", is beyond me??!!
Please explain your reasoning.
When you go to lets say Iraq and see lots of mosques around and all the kids in schools are taught to read the koran and pray to Allah, is it because the muslim people there think islam is superior to christianity, or is it because Iraq is a predominantly Muslim country?
Hang on, dont answer that, could go off topic there!
The point is.... oh forget it, I already waffled enough to make my point.

There should be no 'default' religion and the emphasis should be on developing an individual's spirituality and morality, including those without a belief in god(s). You cannot have a truly equal society where one religion (and one denomination in particular, which incidentally was just made up so that the monarch at the time could divorce one of his wives) is seen as 'the norm'. In actual fact, the history of the British Isles is largely pagan, so saying that this is a Christian country is not quite true.
07.12.2008, 06:54 quote
I tried to track down the original story by placing the "quote" that the Telegraph featured from the NCB report into google and searching for it.
All I found was it's posting verbatim on a lot of right-wing websites, as a quote from the Telegraph rather than from someone looking for the source.
The Telegraph does not give enough information to identify the report containing the guidance, which is indicative that they probably made it up.
Undeterred I searched the NCB website for their guidance on nurseries. Their guidance on these matters was actually based on advice like "every child matters". No mention of spicey food there.
It's another non-story, another piece of unverifiable "news" intended to make people so miserable and angry that the only thing they want to do is to keep buying the Daily Telegraph.
07.12.2008, 09:53 quote
First of all I'll just say that this country is not largely pagan despite its roots being such. Digging into the history books doesn't really help, as taking that view means that in theory no country is mainly Christian, Islamic or anything else if you dig far enough.
As for having a default religion, if we didn't have one I suspect most people would not take up a religion. People in the UK are largely driven by materialism, leisure and freedom. Religion tends to be at odds with each of those, particularly freedom. The basis of a lot of religions is that someone else has done the thinking and written it down so you dont have to think for yourself. Modern society has encouraged logic, science and reason. Religions tend to be based on traditions, visions, personal whims and archaic political motives. This is why many religions struggle to be unified over fundamental points.
Religion is of course the opiate of the people
07.12.2008, 14:21 quote
Absolutely kadushu.
Dig far back enough, and we should all be hunter-gatherers living in caves, with no religion at all, except maybe making sacrifices each evening to ensure the sun comes up the next morning.
Though I agree totally with purplebunny re king henry causing mayhem and changing history to suit himself, the fact remains the queen is still head of the church of england.
Trying to reconcile the whole shebang will never work because they all argue too much, despite prince charles hedging that way ("defender of all faiths") - and in a sense thats like saying the govt should be run by a plethora of different political parties, the prime minister should be a bit of everything.
As for the comment that 'christianity' thinking it is superior.....well, thats where and why a melting pot of all religions will never work.
The catholics believe that catholicism is "the one true faith", the muslims (extreme ones) want to ram islam down everyone's throat....and I honestly dont know enough about any others to comment.
Fact is, of all places in the world, this country is wonderful for allowing people to indulge in their own brand of worship, even satanism is allowed, not many places left in the world where you can openly practice whatever religion you choose, and for that we should be eternally grateful.
As for schools, well age 4 you cant really cope with your little head being stuffed with everything, so it makes sense to start with the basics, which in this country is C of E.

As for the government, I think it should be run by everyone and not some elite of career politicians. I think you can probably work out what my opinion on the monarchy is...
Personally, I think religions should be banned. From my experiences of and research into Christianity, it seems to be an institution designed for social control and monopolising spiritual practices. Christians (extreme ones) too ram their religion down people's throats, I see it regularly in the town centre. Don't think I am criticising Christians, most of them are lovely people, just the institution. People should be free to choose their own spiritual path, whatever that may be...
Also, I think you probably have a misunderstanding about what Satanism - I have studied the Church of Satan (Le Vey Satanism) and from what I can tell, they are just Christian heretics (and atheists) and quite harmless.
If 4 is too young to have your head stuffed with evrything, then maybe start with the basics - like respect for people (including themselves) and the environment, maybe a bit of reading, writing and adding up. No religion required!
