Home >> World-issues >> 50 Billion Euros wasted on agricultural subsidies every year

The European Union is more or less wasting 50 Billion Euros on agricultural subsidies every year.

Why is that?

The agricultural subsidies are paid depending on the size of the land.
So most money is spend on barons (including a Billionaire!) and big companies like RWE that own agricultural land.

Small farmers hardly receive anything although they would need most - especially eco-farmers.

Like, the more you got the more you get? Thats just plain daft, like you say better to give more to help them that need it, like the little guy who's struggling up against the big fish.

I like cheaper food. Not having to fork out a ridiculous amount of money to eat is what i am after and this is what happens when you subsidize the farmers of this world. Heck. Sometimes we should be made to pay more in the case of chicken as Jamie oliver tells us that a bird is sold and the farmer gets 3 pence per bird.
