Not a bad start to the tournament.

Mexico looked great until South Africa scored with a cracking finish, far too much space left at the back for the equaliser.

Tricky to imagine the hosts getting through if they defend that way in the other games.

And those vuvuzelas are irritating.

Yeah, Our Bafana played ok, a few mistakes but no regrets. We had so many good opportunities after Mexico equalized, but nothing came of it. Aw anyway, let the games continue...

Oh and about our Vuvuzela's... It's tradition, and no South African would want it any other way!

'Woza Bafana, Shaya pagathi, Laduuuuuuma!!!'

The vuvuzelas are bloody irritating to say the least!!

I think it must have something to do with there's no traveling support in SA. So there's no terrace chanting between fans. Sopposedly they're are meant to terrify the away team, and intensify when the home team attacks.

However, France v Uruguay they were a constant depressing hum(drum)...so they blow em when there 'neutral' - what's the point. The Vuvizela's lazy noise drowned out the french support when they tried raise the team - and effect the tempo of the match. I think it's the SA fans that should respect the supporters of the visiting teams and their and there style of support also, and save their trumpets for the Bafana x 2 matches, or matches when there is little support for a team ie: North Korea!

I'm reasonably happy with England's start, although the yanks might be more happy.

Hope it will put an end to any more goalie brain us.

Headline implies a possible ban to a degree that the text doesn't really agree with but definitely shows that not all South Africans are in agreement.

Quite a monotonous drone really, fitted the France game quite well on the whole.

Disappointing that we didn't really create more and that we didn't seem to feel like attacking in the last 20 minutes. A slow build up is one thing but passing around the back four as if we were 3 or 4 to the good and had time to kill is quite another.

Hoping that it was partly due to altitude and we will improve in that respect.

Watching England play a world cup opener is like watching a dog get hold of yer ball down the rec and momentarily it looks like it can control a ball and play - before trying to ravage the thing.

I worry that Cappello has bought into or been effected by carp which surrounds an England world cup bid. I really hope we take our cue from Germany and play as a unit - with some skill and intellegence against the Algerians.

Sounds a bit fishy to me! Rolling Eyes

I think you're asking a lot there. But we might be surprised!
'England always play better with their backs to the wall.'
As David Coleman might have said! Razz

Well he had seemed to have instilled this collective spirit in the qualifiers; which wasn't a siege one, or one bulit on hsyteria, or buddy buddy Maclaren - Cappello certainly has some Germanic qualities.

It think he may have smelt the Lavazza on Saturday. He has a big say in this competition. Barry coming back is a major plus - what with the weak spot in centre back and GK. I really want Gerrard 'up front' with Rooney as well. Or if heskey is goning play - play like a man possesed - like he does when he does for a few games when returns from his many exiles. And Joe Cole instead of SWP please!

From what I've seen so far, I've been most impressed with Germany. The way the kept the ball, and then cut through the Aussies when they wanted to was sheer quality.

Not seen Argentina today, so I'll have to take a look. Quite good by the sound of it.

As for England I didn't think they would beat the US. They have a good, underrated team...though I was still disappointed the way it came about.

Still, should be 2 out of two for the rest of the group.

Can England beat Germany? Confused
And - if so - how?
Are there players who might rise to the occasion?
Or even rise and head the ball in the net! Razz

England can beat Germany.

All it takes is for hell to freeze over, and it will happen.

England to win 2-1
Rooney to score
The bet for the red card says:
'90 Mins Only, Player must be on the field of play at time of sending off'
How can the palyer be sent off, if he's not on? Confused

So, that was dire.

England outclassed in every department, and our worst defeat at a World Cup finals. Just about a fitting end to a poor tournament.

Whats most annoying is that you could see the German defence was fragile, but we just didn't put the pressure on we should have done.

Time for Gerrard, Lampard, Terry et al to move aside, and the next generation to have a go.

The next generation probably wont be any better then previous generations.
Most of the players dont seem able to perform for England as they do for their clubs, and the FA dont seem able to find out why.

Although we all probably have our ideas Very Happy
