Baggies have invested less than their rivals, and have only been in the division 5 months this time around. The club have never invested in a goal scorer, as have Wolves - Doyle 6mil, Wigan - Rodelega 9m, Brum Zigic 7m, Stoke etc...I know those examples are not all resounding successes, but they show the old... ambition

I doubt the Eskimo Italian would have been sacked if Blackpool: were, as expected bottom. Brom were still competitive against their rivals, and as it stood, safe. Dunno whether I buy this distance from players as a proper reason - that could be his style: but maybe as a struggling young manager you need to build on 'that' over years al a Wenger & Ferguson - who have cultivated, or engendered a sophisticated sense of distance, if it can be termed as that, a kinda paternal respect and other aspects

There's no real talk of Wigan sacking Martinez...but then again Hughton went so silly season continues

Hodgson is a good shout though, could his availability have anything to do with the sacking??? After all he is the guy, the opti-miser, who works with what's there: cheap and effective team running. Or Warnock (just me saying that) not totally 360 media loved as Redknapp, but an avuncular figure and produce combative teams

Another thing that perplexes me is that both Brum and Brom's crowds; Saints get 23,000 ave in Div 3, why arn't these teams in a massive conurbation getting higher attendances? Could it be that be a yo-yo fails to attract causals who have the novelty factor, or cement said folk with the aid of more prestigious signings which come with establishment in the division. I don't know the geography too well, but lets say Stoke and a lesser extent Bristol are places where evenly matched(ish) local catchments have over a ten year period strongly favoured one team, one club floundering and the other in ascendancy. With all the clubs there, is Midlands football too middling?

The team is on a slump, and the rumblings are that things were not right behind the scenes. It sounds as though he kept himself distant from the players, and they did not react well.

There is a common denominator though...chairman Jeremy 'wanker' Peace. He has fallen out with Gary Megson, Bryan Robson, Tony Mowbray and now RDM. We will never move up to the next level with him and his muppet Dan Ashworth (technical director, responsible for the transfers or lack thereof).

I think most teams have have been through a few weeks slump this year at times. If the baggies win a couple they could be in mid table.

There are a couple of good managers available, but will they only use W Brom as a stepping stone?

There are different reasons for the two teams relatively poor attendances:

Albion - Jeremy Peace has raised the ticket prices this year, by a significant amount. The majority of Albion's fan base is in the manufacturing industry, which has taken a major hammering. Baggies fans cannot always afford to go the the match as they used to. The lack of ambition is a problem too...nobody believes Peace wants us to be any more than we are, and certainly won't put our money on the line. He has also lowered the capacity twice in recent times, due to increased segregation and a refit of the Halfords Lane stand.

Blues - Are not the big club everybody believes. Whereas the Black Country is split pretty evenly between Albion / Wolves, Blues are the small team in Brum, as much as they think they are bigger than Jesus. Again you could also point to the recession, but Birmingham is about 70% to 30% Villa, and so Blues do not have as big a fan base as the other three.

Walsall are the real losers, though. Four teams playing regular premier league football within a 20 minute radius, all have increased the costs of going to watch them, and every Midlanders second team have seen their attendances plummet.

We've been going great since Woy took over, hes an absolute legend already. We look more organised, and for the first time, a real Premier League team.

Uncle Woy's bizarrely gallic shrug has had the weight lifted of it's shoulders; I think the much travelled Europhile has found a home at The Hawthorns.

and Micheal Jackson is at Fulham - as one fan said, "Why? ...why us?" Weird chairman, "sleepiest London club" ...I think Hughes will be off
