I know this isnt quite the right place, but....

Would it be very wrong to go for a run / race to avoid brother wife's 30th birthday if I didnt want to go to it?

Well if its a race you could say you've already signed up and cant get out of it but not sure that would work if you said it was just a run...? Confused

Hows the training for Febuary going Missme?

Got my first run of the year on Sunday, 10km up in Preston to stretch my legs a bit - see how Christmas and winter has affexted me.

It's going really well thanks, I'm up to 9 miles now on my long runs and looking forward to my race in 2 weeks. How did yours go today? If you have the same weather as we have here then you will have had ideal conditions Smile

It was an OK race, but cold and a bit windy - you know, the wind that always blows towards you, never at your back. The time was OK - a minute slower than I was last summer but Ive had christmas cake since then and havent really run on a road for 2 months, so all in all pretty good, thanks.

9 miles is pretty good!! I am still running in the gym and do about 3 before I get bored - depends whats on the telly there!

Next race Ive booked for is a half marathon round silvertone in March, maybe do one before then.

Today was a smallish race, starting from a pub and it made me feel sorry for the landlords. It gets taken over for an hour with a couple of hundred runners all wanting to pee and not buy a beer (and they smell a bit strange - deep heat and some in some not so fresh kit), then it goes empty. Regular customers go in for lunch... and then the runners return. Now they want a beer and still smell of deep heat and all of them have some not so fresh kit on. Poor pub. The summer ones are OK cause the runners go to the beer garden but in the winter the stay inside.

Poor landlord indeed ! And the customers lol.
Seems like you did well anyway despite the xmas cake Wink
I know what you mean about that wind, I've been out battling it now for weeks on end, it never seems to go away Mad
I can't bear running on the treadmill, I only use it now for a weekly interval session and I might ditch that when the lighter evenings come back.

Odd how tastes vary. I find the treadmill a lot less annoying than running outdoors, unless I'm playing a sport.

Well, half marathon on Sunday, better practice running a bit now I think. Was it Left leg, right leg, right leg, left leg? Or Left, Right, Left, Left, Right? I get confused but Im sure it will work OK. Reckon Im in for about an hour and a half, but it wouldbe nice to do it in twice the last 10km time and a bit but that would kill me.

Got an e-mail today, about a cross country run 'Hell Run' (Its on Runners world) - sounds good and I think I am going to enter it. Have a look and see if anyone else fancies doing them (there are 3), could meet up before or after for a beer?

Update: From the organisers e-mail.
If you are new to Hellrunner the answer to your question is "Yes, it really does take more than one shower to get the mud off!".

Hey people, I'm new here but noticed the topic on running so I thought I'd say hello. I only started running a year ago, used to run on the treadmill but now I cant even stay on for 20 mins without getting mindnumbingly bored. Ran a few 10ks up here in scotland including the BUPA great edinburgh run (thats coming up soon again), thats a great event though only a 10km (did I really say only?!?). Also did the great scottish run half which was brilliant though it was peeing it down!

Still not got back into it properly after new year but this thread has given me a bit of motivation!

Hi DrBrightside. Im glad you are enjoying the running, and your right - the treadmill is boring! I can do 40 mins and then only if I have a run coming up and Im focused on that. Mind 20 mins is half a 10km nearly.

Im looking for runs to do later in the year, have you got any ideas of runs you are going to do this year (Im lazy and just want to copy ideas)

Do you think running is an insanity? Its hard to explain why we run, and that we enjoy it. But its good

20 mins in nowhere near half a 10 km for someone like me lol! I can definitely recommend the Great Scottish run, takes place in Glasgow, fantastic atmosphere. It's now the (let me get this right) biggest run after the london marathon and great north run. I think it'll be september again this year. My dream would be to do a really far-flung marathon like the NY marathon or Tokyo marathon.

I think I'm like a lot of people, I can train best when I know I've got a run coming up. What surprised me about running was how different it was to the running you do in other sports like football. I started out barely able to run 20 mins and now I feel comfortable (read not dead) running a couple of hours (really really slowly!).

Running is like an addiction. When I'm out driving and I pass people who are running and I always think 'I should be out running!'.
