I enjoy running and thought it meeting up with members for a run might be an interesting way of getting to know each other (awkwards silences could also mean being out of breath).

Im trying to run a race each month and travel round the country doing them.

So will you be doing the Great North Run? And did you do the Nottingham marathon/half marathon?

I didnt do the Nottingham runs last week, I looked at them because my brother lives out that way - Am not sure if that would do me any good, since he would insist on a night before beer!

I will be up in Newcastle for the great north run - are you going to do that, or is anyone else up for it? Im looking forward to it.

I think I have lost my marbles somewhere - I have booked to do a marathon in Langdale on the 24th September as well, a slow marathon but wonderfull scenery.

Anyone else going runninng anywhere?

Did the Nottingham half - wa s quite a warm morning...I have a not dis-similar philosphy of doing events quite regularly, really helps to keep me running, wouldn't be quite so ?enthusiastic otherwise.
And will be doing GNR as well, have done it lots of times, is a top weekend.Havn't got anything else planned after tho - need to find something. Any recommendations?

Ill have a look to see what looks interesting.

GNR is a really good run, think its my 4th this year, love the crowds seeing how many people turn out just to see us passing, the banter with the other runners is great, the bands..... dont need to go on really. Its a good run.

What kind of runs do you enjoy the most?

Favourite running is off-road I think, really good to get a bit muddy sometimes & away from the crowds.Haven't run a full marathon yet - have (poss rather foolishly) applied for 2007 London marathon.... Hardest thing I've done so far is the KIMM - tho the further away it gets in my memory the more tempted I am to do it again...rubbish at navigating tho which is a bit of a disadvantage...! What about you?

Its odd, I like walking, mountain biking and things but have never really run off road much.

I did the KIMM last year (disqualified for missing 2 check points though), but really good fun.

For people who dont know, KIMM is a mountain race over 2 days, carrying all your kit to camp out, and is in different parts of the country each year. The one I did was in the lakes and it was tough. I'd do another - I think you're right, the further away it is, the better I remember it and tend to forget the agony of my knee (twisted it playing football half way round a marathon 2 weeks before, and the fell running finished it off for a few weeks). Id do another, and am half tempeted to run the lyke wake race - 42 miles over the north york moors.

Running is a sort of bug, I cant explain why I like it, it sounds silly, its painfull and training is boring, but the race and the last 100 yards when you can see the finish and hear the crowds cheering and all you have to do is get there and stop, its better than most things you can do.

i personally cant stand running, so boring and monotonous, plus its murder on my joints LMAO

i prefer high-energy sports, like rock climbing and karate, each to their own i guess

There are no cliffs in Southport to climb up. Miles of flat beach to run along but no cliffs, or else i might climb a bit more too.

I'm with you on that. I love the buzz of a race and I feel on a high for days afterwards. I've got a 10k on sunday which I'm really looking forward to as my last race was back in September.
p.s. Well done on you GNR time, I'm doing a half in march & would be well pleased with that.

Good luck missme,

I hope its nicer weather than this weekend - I went running on Sunday and got stopped in my tracks by the wind, and that was on a downhill!

You'll have to let us know how you do.

Thanks sp. It is really windy at the moment, I ran this morning and it was tough but fingers crossed it will be gone by Sunday.
Do you run alone or with a club/bud? I do all my training alone as cant get to a club as they all run in the evenings and I have no childcare. Sometimes I wish for a running bud but in general I'm happy to plod along on my own Smile

No, I tend to run alone or in the gym, its easier in a way that I can go when I want.

When I talk to people at the races they all suggest a running club though - social life and a reason to go out at least once a week.

I'm happy to run alone but its nice as well to have someone to run with

After the weekend I am convinced that while wind can blow from all directions, it mainly does in the opposite direction to the one Im running in.

Yeah know what you mean about being able to run when you want as having a partner would mean you were committed to certain times/days.
Have you any races coming up soon?
