Thai Chi and Yoga can be pretty good too, with the former being excellent for bad backs and the latter more a full-body work out.

Although i can't say i understand her worying about that, diets... i never thought they're a good idea.
i mean, diet or not, everybody's got to excercise a little. i could add also that the state of mind has probably the greatest impact in all this, the way you look, body shape, - it's all in metabolism, and this nasty (sometimes) guy depends a lot in the state of mind.
i couldn't say what kind of excercise is best, because they're all mentioned (almost all of `em) and they're all good.
I would say though, basketball, if nobody's already picked.
A jump involves most of your body muscles, even those you don't know exist. while you concentrate on the ball, it won't even feel like excercise.
anyway... i can't understand what she could possibly change to look any bit better... Surprised

My advice is not to diet but instead seek to do more exercise to consume your calories.

Experiment and try to find time to do the things you love the most. Consider buying some kit too (a bike, roller blades, sprung extreme stilts) for variety.

For me it's walking (especially near rivers) and cycling that really fire me up. I keep wanting to buy a coracle too but so far I've resisted it ...

Ooooh I built a coracle many years ago, it sank somewhere off poole harbor never to be seen again...did get a few trips out in it first though!

This is one of the problems with coracles. They may be handy to carry on your back but they are not actually all that buoyant. The modern fibre-glass ones have some added foam but I wouldn't trust it.

Slightly crazier than a coracle, but still portable, is the pontoon boat that fits into a supplied backpack! With these boats (or is it these backpacks?) you actually get oars, which would be easier for me.

The traditional way to get about with a coracle is a complicated figure-of-eight stroke with a single paddle. It's not something I was taught as a boy scout but rowing is a different matter.

I even taught my oldest niece how to row ...

I've got a 4 man dinghy, inflatable, one that can have an outboard on the back. Last year my GF and I had some great days out on different rivers and the sea. The river trips were really peaceful, but good exercise with the paddling, and it was nice to have a picnic in such serene settings.

We went out on the river Stour in Suffolk, Medway in Kent, Mole in Surrey and on the sea in Pevensey Bay, where I managed to managed to sink in mudflats! Confused
This year i think we will do a bit of wild camping, on some riverside. Luckily my girlfriend has an adventurous spirit like me and likes that sort of thing. Very Happy

So, add boats to the list of getting fit activities, its quite aerobic if you paddle fast Wink

A good thing to remember that being able to walk gives you more options ...

For example, I was coming back from London to my closest mainline station but found I'd need to wait over an hour to get the station closer to home.

So rather than grumble, I just walked home and almost got home before that train would have left!

I lost 2 stone up until November, then I got the dreaded flu bug that's going around really bad, lasted about 6 weeks, then we had Christmas. When I was weighed recently, I put on a stone. This is mainly due to lack of exercise over the last couple months.

So its onwards and upwards
