thanks everyone you are brill at encouraging me... i finally got started today wohooo!! excellente... so back on the slimfast today... did a fast 40 minute walk at lunchtime and a 30 minute one at teatime... thank feck that i'm back on track... so what fitness stuff has everyone else got up to?

If you want my advice of 25/30 years of yoyo dieting, and going through periods of being overweight and a fit hunk. I would say don't bother with things like slimfast. I've tried every one of these dating fads including slimfast and all the do is keep the cycle going. They do work and help you lose weight quickly, but you always put it back on again.

Problem with things like slimfast is you know you can lose weight quickly with them so you don't mind putting it on, which isn't good.
You should look at what you eat and set up a diet regime that will last...also keep up the exercise. Its true what the experts say, adjust your diet and lose it slowly. Wish I did 25 years ago.

You don't have to cut down on food or stop eating what you like now and again, or even stop drinking booze.

Cut down eating refined foods and ready prepared food with a lot of salt and sugar, eat fresh food. Also food with low GI index.

I lost nearly 2 stone recently without really trying, or cutting down on food and still drinking booze now and again. Just changed what I eat and eating slower and more exercise [the key to keeping your weight down], mainly walking. Eat slowly and good food more often during the day.

Try a low GI [Glycaemic Index] diet.

Sorry if I'm telling you things you already know, but its just my experience.

thanks guys its good to see its not only us women who battle with the pounds... well day 2 and wohoo all going great the slimfast is going down a treat and did a good hard 40 min power walk after work..feeling great... always good to get outdoors to after work.

Ay jeggae I know you right but I find slimfast is the only one that really works for me I find it nice and slimpistic and like the taste of them, I'm pretty much an all or nothing kind of character so don't do moderation lol but you guys defo defo defo right about the exercise and doesn't it make you feel just great. I was looking in the local paper the day and seen some yoga classes advertised so i might give that ok and there was a deal on horseriding lessons and might give that a whizz too for the crack as i loved it when i was younger.

Are any of you trying a new sport?

Lovelylady ... unless your going to take slimfast for the rest of your life then its only going to be short term weight loss and when you start eating normally again all the weights going to go back on hun. x

These drinks are just a quick fix, I've done them before if i've a few weeks to fit into a dress for a wedding or before i went on holiday, but they dont work long term

its not MS .. ITS M.E... and yes yoga is great, but its not exercise (as such) I've got an appoitment to Gartnavel hosp on the 23rd January at the homeopathic clinic ... i'm hopeful of anything that makes me feel normal.. i hate feeling like this

One type of exercise you might want to consider is a medium distance walk.

Get yourself a map, whether it is a local ordinate survey or an on-line one, and work out a 4 to 8 mile route. A fit person can generally walk at 4 miles an hour for extended periods, which might help you work out roughly how long it will take you.

Pack the map, a bit of food and some water into a bag and don't forget to carry your mobile. It's best to walk with your hands free.

The trick is to find interested places to walk to and to start with simple routes. Libraries also generally have simple walks, close to car parks, that the less creative can undertake.

Once you get used to this kind of thing you'll find that the range by which you'll be prepared to going shopping by foot increases, for example, and you'll be able to wander all over your local area.

A good pair of walking shoes can help if you are planning to walk more. They should provide more traction than normal shoes and prevent slips.

Even wearing just your most sensible pair of shoes to walk in can help a great deal.

Popping into Blacks (or any other serious walking shop) in the afternoon, because your feet get larger throughout the day, could help. The assistant should be able to advise you - I don't think they're on any kind of commission so you should be safe.

If you do buy something always remember to carefully "break in" new walking footwear through standard use before trying something you consider adventurous.

I'm glad that this advice and encouragement seems to be helpful!
