Yep, we're only a couple of weeks away from the 2008 season Very Happy

Your predictions please.

I expect (obviously) a strong show from Maclaren and Ferrari, but I think good things will come from BMW and Red Bull, Alonso will struggle in an under-performing Renault, the back end will be filled with Super Aguri and Force India, and (shamefully) Honda...which leaves Toyota, STR and Williams to argue over the mid-places.

Sato....lmao...if i could only bet on him and win though.

Coulthard but he suffered from reliability this last season. Too bad as he was always up there in the top 15 when he did not have a mechanical and he had way too many of those last season. I saw him on at least three races bow out due to mechanicals. Damn machines have a life of their own. I always seem to go for losers and underdogs but that is the american way.

I predict that lots of cars will go pointlessly round and round for 2 hours+ before they stop and declare one of the drivers the winner.

If you should be unfortunate enough to actually watch the event, you'll be treated to James 'Expert' Allen and Martin 'ex-driver' Brundle talking about tyres, aerodynamics and dignifying the 'action' by talking about 'dirty air' and 'limited overtaking opportunities'.

At the end of the season, Ferrari will win, regardless of the results of any of the races.

There, now nobody has to get up at silly o'clock to actually watch the thing.

Judging by the form in Friday free practice the Ferraris and Maclarens look strong, and surprisingly Red Bull doing quite well too. Force India surprised also, but the woeful Williams have suffered some problems.
Looking good for qualifying tomorrow, so unless there's an upset it'll be either Kimi or Lewis grabbing pole position, maybe a late charge from Webber in his home race might get him up the front too.
After that it's a question of who has the best package to see it out to the chequered flag, there have already been reports of graining with the soft tyres, and aero problems with the strong winds out on track too. Confused

Well that was an exciting start to the season. A nice win for Lewis from pole, the Ferraris both failing to finish, and only 5 of the 22 starters making it to the finishing line!!!
It was good to see the BMW and Williams making it to the podium too.
I can't wait for Malaysia next week.

Yes indeedy!

I just had a re-read of the earlier posts - seems like the predictions were, in the main, pretty accurate.

IMO its been a fantastic season, lots of incidents and upset, plenty of good racing and overtaking, the usual inappropriate/questionable stewards decisions that generally favoured Ferrari or penalised Maclaren, and if we think about it Lewis would already be the champion had he not been penalised 25 seconds after the race at Spa Francorchamps demoting him from 1st to third.

Anyways, I'm going to settle down for the qualifying this afternoon and I hope to see Lewis and Heikki up the front, Alonso way back so he can't cause any problems (he already said he wants to see Ferrari win and of course there is the bad feelings after last year), and hopefully Massa will be several places back on the grid which would effectively put him out of contention.

The FIA have been a bunch of arses this season, oh anti Hamilton. When Ferrari have been at fault they do nothing. Pretty much every race Hamilton does well in I now expect them to strip him of points on some stupid technicality.

Anyway I have high hopes of Lewis winning it fair and square.

Well done Hamilton, watching the last bit of the race, it seems Glock gave away his position so Hamilton would win, good man!

Brilliant race, anyone know the new ruling thats coming in for next year?

I know about the full slicks...there's new down force rules etc? wondering what they are.

Why would Glock do that?

Quote:
On 22 December 2006, the FIA released the technical regulations for the 2009 season[30].

* Along with changes to bodywork, vehicle weight and tyre size, the document includes details of a "Kinetic Energy Recovery System", or KERS. This is a regenerative brake device that is designed to recover some of the vehicle's kinetic energy that is normally dissipated as heat during braking. The recovered energy could be stored electrically, in a battery or supercapacitor, or mechanically, in a flywheel, for use as a source of additional accelerative power at the driver's discretion.
* After being banned since 1998, slick tyres will be provided by Bridgestone in 2009.[31]
* There will also be a cap on team budgets starting in the 2009 season.[32]
* Section 3.18 of the regulations contains details of "driver adjustable bodywork". The angle of incidence of elements in a defined area forward of the front wheels can be varied by up to 6 degrees and adjusted by direct driver input. A maximum of 2 adjustments can be made on any lap.

For the full largely incomprehensible rules.

A big well done to Lewis....local boy done good!

I watched the last few laps through my hands, I thought it was all for lost until I saw Glock slipping around on his grooved slicks and Vettel and Lewis cruise past him.

I've been celebrating since the result was confirmed.
I do really feel for the ferrari camp though, to see their man come in first, then the scenes of jubilation turning to disappointment as our man took 5th place and the championship....oh yes, the boot is on the other hand now Massa!
