Hi, new to this so I don't know whether it has already been discussed before. I am a Fulham fan but i was outraged about 3 - 4 days ago when i saw Darren Bent moving to Spurs for £16.5 million!! Are they mad??!! Yeah, fair enough he had a decent season for a disappointing team in the league but just look at how he has coped on the International stage - I mean come on, not even a fully recognised international and they are throwing this money at him! In some ways, its a mockery of what football has turned into, Darren Bent has been valued at the same price as one of the greatest ever footballers to grace the Premiership - Thierry Henry.

I hope that Darren Bent is successful at Spurs because otherwise they'll get on his back sooner or later (like they do with most of their players) and all the potential that he has will be lost and he'll just turn into a very average striker with no chance of getting an England call-up and his only claim to fame is to have once been bought for 16.5 mil !!

Welcome to the board.

English players are always over priced but if Theo Walcott is worth almost £10 million then Bent is easily worth nearly £17 million. Whether or not Bent will be value for money we shall see at the end of next season. He hasn't had one good season, he has been prolific all his playing career and has had two very good seasons in the premiership, and hopefully that will continue Wink

But it doesnt seemed to have occurred to many people that maybe Henry was sold under priced. Spurs probably sold Sheringham under priced to Man U, as a mark of respect to him and what he did at Spurs. But we can go on all day saying if this players worth this then that players worth that.

The Spurs management are one of the shrewdest in the premiership, and I'm not going to complain about anything they do, as they have got the desired results so far. I doubt very much Charlton will get all that money straight away, and will probably take years to get it all dependant on games.

AS for playing for England, Bent has only just turned 23,and I suspect the reason why he turned down double wages at Wham is because he knows he has a better chance at plying for England with Spurs, Spurs is one of the teams they pick England players from...and Charlton isn't.

Personally I'm glad we bought him and I wanted all last season.

£16.5m for Darren Bent?

The world has well and truly gone mad... he is worth £10m absolute maximum, but thats the price of English strikers these days for you.

Decent striker and respect to Spurs for continuing to buy British, but he is certainly no world beater, can't believe Spurs paid more for him than Barcalona did for Thierry Henry.

They have one heck of a strikeforce now, although I guess this spells the end for Defoe at Spurs.

Whether or not it spells the end for Defoe is up to whether he wants to sign a new contract, if not we'll have offload to him.

People who know a lot more about football than you were prepared to pay that for Bent, so I rely and trust in their judgement. But you're right about our strike force.

Chris Powell was a good England international....hopefully Bent will be.

Who claimed Defoe was 'a great yid find' ??
