Not sure if this belongs here, or the Advice section.
Thing is this. My youngest lad is nearly 16 and he lives with his dad.
I get on well with his dad, but the other day he rang me rather irate. He found a Loaded magazine under our lad's bed, He wants me to 'have a word' with the boy because he says he is shocked and he's too young to be looking at mags like that.
He's already talked with him and they ended up having a row cuz he says his dad's 'not with the times' (he's 65 and a bit old-fashioned).
But I used to buy Loaded for our older boy when he was around that age, and I dont see whats wrong with it. Its not like its 'hardcore' is it? All i ever saw was pics of women who wear less on the beach these days.
What do others think? Should I be reading the riot act? Or is it pretty lame stuff still, or has the content got 'more adult' in the past few years?
I suppose I could talk with his older brother about it, but I dont want the onus placed on his shoulders, nor do I fancy standing in WHSmiths perusing said mag to check it out.
Any advice/thoughts welcome please. Thanks!

I don't read it (or should I say look at it!) myself. He's 16 and there isn't anything in there that I recall I'd be too worried about. His mates will probably read similar magazines so he'll see them anyway. Theres plenty on tv thats worse as well.
I wouldn't worry...

Far be it from me to dictate anything to anyone but this really shouldn't be a problem and the guy is 16 and old enough to have actuel sex.
I think problems only happen if you are not open about stuff if the poor lad is made to feel like some perv because of the magazine he is going to feel really bad.It isn't even pornogrpahy.
The only worry I have about stuff like Loaded or even porn is the quality of the writing as long as the lad isn't buying the ma for that he is just doing what a healthy kid his age does.
Oh as for how raunchy Loaded is to put it simply the worst type of picture you get in the mag is a toppless photo.
Pretty much the standard page three stuff...I hope this helps, don't forget the contents of magazines like these are hyped on the front cover mostly.

The most he will see in that magazine is some no-mark z-list model's tits (and they are probably not real). Given that he is 16, I don't think its anything to get irate or angry about. If it was escort or razzle, then shout at him, but Loaded is nothing.

On a side note, but still on topic, the quality of that magazine is shocking.
The first issue I ever bought featured a topless shoot of Cameron Diaz, an interview with Michael Caine, and was hilarious. The last issue I got had a few pics of a load of women I'd never heard of, an interview with Joe something-or-other from Eastenders, and I barely laughed.
If you're going to punish him for anything, it should be picking 'Loaded' out of all those titles.

Yeah it used to be pretty good they even had an interview with Chris Morris once and he hardly gives interviews.
It started to really tail off in the late 90's and I never was an FHM fan.

Thanks for reassuring me guys. I was of the thinking that loaded is pretty harmless stuff, but needed to know if it had become a bit more 'porn-ish'. Ultimately, I - and his dad - would not want him to be made to feel a 'perv' for doing what boys do best (ogle the girls!) and we all have a pretty good open comfortable relationship to be able to discuss such matters without taboo, but its more a case of difference of opinions about such things - ie I dont think its a big deal, but his dad is shocked. The boys think its funny that dad is more narrow minded than mum. Ha! Kids, who'd 'ave 'em?
(as for the quality of the writing, he's currently reading Robinson Crusoe for pleasure, not schoolwork, so I am not worried about his intellectual limitations - a wide variety of reading material from the sublime to the ridiculous can only be a good thing!).

Oh no, we would never punish him for summat like that. it's not like its 'wrong' is it? I just wondered if I should be frowning at his raunchy taste in 'reading material'.
I know full well he's probably checked out some porn sites on his brother's internet......they have even discussed with us the whys and wherefores of what is illegal, or ok, or pervy or whatever. So am not worried he's going to turn into some psycho rapist or summat.
If we caught him shop-lifting I'd chop his hands off, and anything remotely pervy i'd slap him from here to kingdom come.......but as for reading Loaded, no punishment, just ammunition to embarrass him in front of his mates hahahahahahaha.

Thing I guess it's ten times more difficult when you are a parent in the driving seat and you can never tell how your kids will react to things.
I haven't got any kids (one day I hope) but I came from a big family and have had to look after younger brothers and nephews and nieces and that's a task by itself.
owever you sound like you at least have a balanced view on this whole thing and I would imagine you won't even think aout this next week
07.05.2008, 15:44 quote
I try to be as open-minded as possible! Not easy when I came from a very taboo-ridden family, with just sisters, and my kids dad is rather 'old fashioned' though not authoritarian. At times like this I wish I had daughters instead!
But then, I had the same problem as I would have I suppose with girls, when my eldest son's girlfriend who was still 15 at the time, her mum evicted her and she stayed at mine.......the whole "I'm open-minded but will chop your dick off if I catch you in her bedroom" thing gave me sleepless nights!
I am just grateful to you lot for reassuring me that Loaded is nothing to get in a frizz over.

the only 'lads mag' i've ever read is FHM and that's only when the top 100 ladies are in it !
As already said, he's 16yrs old now which means he is legally old enough to have sex etc.
surely his dad should be the one to have the chat with him though as he might feel uncomfortable talking to his mum about that sort of thing?
Either that or stick him on the internet for an hour with the adult filters turned off - he'll learn pretty quick.. ![]()

I agree with all the lads Alice. Your son is 16...he isn't a child anymore. He's just being a growing lad at the end of the day. Didnt his dad ever look at anything like Loaded when he was growing up?? Your completely right in your stance on it hun. It's nothing to even get het up about

He's not 16 til september.
Yes, he's already sneaked a peek at porn on the internet with his older brother!
No, there is nothing for him or me (or his dad) to feel uncomfortable about.
He can, and does, talk with his dad, and me - we have a pretty comfy relationship with the boys -the problem is that his dad thinks Loaded is too racy for a boy his age, but I disagreed cuz I used to buy it for his brother at that age - I figured at least that way I knew what he was reading, and didnt have to worry about what he was sneaking behind our backs.
The problem I have here is that I was unsure if his dad was right about Loaded being too racy (I've not seen in for a few years, and he lives in cornwall so I havent seen what he bought) as their dad and I like to be united when 'laying the law down' to the boys.
This time though I think, from what you guys have said, I shall maintain that their dad is being OTT.......its not like he's even saying our son 'must not' read said mag, he;s just saying he does not approve.
Ho hum, they/we shall have to agree to disagree on this!

Nothing harmful about that, ...as has been said he will see some bimbo with fake oversized tits but nothing more. I dont bother with mags like that myself much more erotic women out i the real world but a bit of fantasy wont hurt the lad

Me and my brothers had much worse then that hidden away at 16
Probably embarrassing the lad if you don't make a joke of it.
