Is there a prequel to that?
'Where Was God Before It Hurt?'
Or maybe a pre-prequel:
'Why Did God Make Hurty Things Anyway?'

Charlie and the chocolate factory. Why couldn't they have made the oompa loompas like they are in the books when they made the films? I swear they wouldn't have freaked me out as much.

David Mitchell - Cloud Atlas
It's a nested sextet of short stories that are interwoven through interrupted dialogues. It also rocks

What do you think of it so far? Have to say I prefered The Kite Runner, I thought Splendid Suns was good but a little heavy going at times.

I've got just beyond her mom committing suicide, to where they are marrying her off.
It's a view of a totally different culture, but I haven't found anything - so far - to justify the blurps on the cover: I haven't been greatly moved, or inspired, and I've only noitced one and a half splendid suns. OK, it might be me!
What I've read looks like scene-setting, so maybe it'll improve as I go along. (I hope!
I haven't read The Kite Runner yet.
